To define their very first sustainability strategy including an appropriate sustainability program as well as the setup of an organizational sustainability management and reporting structure, the client asked for support. The background was the legal requirements on non-financial disclosure (EU non-financial reporting directive). A second important driver was the client's participation in the ESG-rating EcoVadis, as requested by key customers in the transportation sector. For the rating process, the client needed to collect and report detailed information on their sustainability efforts.
A robust governance structure and data collection process are crucial within a sustainability strategy to ensure regulatory compliance and enhanced ESG
performance.
Our project modules encompassed sustainability strategy, management and reporting, data collection, corporate carbon footprint, and EcoVadis ESG-Rating optimization. Deloitte developed the client's inaugural sustainability strategy through stakeholder analysis, materiality assessment, and workshops. We also established and implemented a robust internal governance structure for sustainability and set up efficient data collection processes. Additionally, we conducted an in-depth strategic and gap analysis of previous rating results, gathered essential supporting documents, and drafted a final response, including preparing relevant documentation.
Deloitte ensured the client’s regulatory compliance with respect to non-financial disclosure and increased their EcoVadis rating score significantly over three consecutive years. This allows the client to participate in simplified tendering processes and is a prerequisite for supplying key customers in the transportation sector. Lastly, we facilitated internal knowledge building and transfer on sustainability across the business.
