From steel to concrete: carriers investing in terminals
2023 has been a busy year for acquisitions in the shipping industry. In contrast to investing in ships or other carriers, we have seen headline making acquisitions in the terminal sector by container carriers such as the 49% acquisition of HHLA by MSC or Hapag-Lloyd acquiring SM SAAMs terminal business in Latin and South America. The motivation to make such investments and potential synergy expectations may be different from each carrier but certainly come along with potential conflicts of interest or political discussions as seen during the acquisition of a minority share in the container terminal Tollerort by COSCO. Our keynote speakers will address these topics and share their view and an outlook on the ongoing consolidation of global terminal activities.
After a busy 2023 and the upcoming Marine Money week, we would very much like to welcome you to attend our traditional Deloitte Shipping Breakfast as our guest and enjoy a healthy breakfast and freshly brewed coffee together with us and your peers from the shipping industry.
We'll announce next years' date as soon as possible.
