BIRD: From Prototype to Mass Adoptions

Banks’ Integrated Reporting Dictionary (BIRD) has been around for 10 years and with a primary focus on reducing the reporting burden for banks. There is a need for a more integrated, harmonized and standardized reporting framework in the European Union. BIRD should become a stepping stone for such framework, i.e. harmonizing data definitions and streamlining cross-reporting frameworks, enabling banks to share the costs of reporting, making the process more efficient and less daunting. Yet, despite its potential, the widespread adoption of BIRD has failed to materialize yet. What are these barriers? And how can we dismantle these obstacles?
