Audit – Analytics: Delivery of our Audit work is increasingly dependent on the understanding and challenge of large datasets, and the reporting produced from them. Our Data & Analytics team within Audit empowers our Audit teams, and Assurance teams, to analyse, understand and test the data and models we receive from the entities we audit. We work across all industries, and we drive usage of our growing library of tools and insights across our audit portfolio more over time, to transform our Audit delivery. We use a powerful technology stack, including scripting, visualisation, automation, and data science tools, which we continuously invest in and develop in the UK and globally. 

IT Specialists: We work across all parts of the Audit & Assurance business to assess the risk around IT systems that generate financially relevant information. You’ll learn how IT supports business objectives and key processes. Our purpose is to serve the public interest and help give confidence that the financial information that is being published. As part of your graduate opportunity, you will have the option to study towards a MSc qualification in Digital and Business Risk Management. Other relevant qualifications are also offered including CISA, and other technology specific certifications during your career with us.

Global Investment and Innovation Incentives (Gi3) - Computer Science and Information Technology

The UK government offers generous incentives to UK companies operating across all areas of science, engineering and technology to encourage investment in research and development. We work closely with our clients to learn about their projects, document their leading-edge technologies and apply for innovation funding.

By joining the Deloitte Gi3 team in the UK you’ll be supported by over 150 local, and 1,500 global colleagues. Our backgrounds include technology, engineering, science and finance and we are all linked together by our passion for innovation.

Our clients range from local start-ups to large multinationals giving you endless variety of people, projects and companies to work with. Ongoing learning is key to our success as individuals and as a team. We provide a wide range of structured and experience-based learning to set you up for success from day 1.

As a Gi3 analyst you’ll leverage your technical background in computer science, information technology or similar to engage client stakeholders working on some of the most exciting innovation projects across all areas of IT. Your work will play a pivotal role in helping our clients determine which aspects of their projects qualify for the various incentives available and develop quality documents to be submitted in support of their claims.

Tax Technology Consulting

In Tax Technology Consulting (TTC) we work with some of the largest businesses in the world, helping them to successfully navigate their most exciting and complex challenges in tax. You’ll work closely with clients to tackle the challenges of managing their tax affairs globally, including compliance, reporting and risk management. You’ll help them modernise their tax function by automating tax processes, transforming operational models, identifying tax incentives, or outsourcing their compliance cycles all with the use of technology. At Deloitte we value training and encourage you to grow your own way. You’ll gain essential skills in accounting and technology that are transferrable to other business roles outside of tax, should your future career take you there. As we work at the forefront of tax innovation, this is a great platform to become a leading tax professional in the industry.

  • Finance Transformation and ERP: Finance transformation is the process whereby businesses modernise and improve their finance functions. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) refers to software that organisations use to manage day-to-day business activities such as accounting, procurement, project management, compliance, and supply chain operations. We work with our specialist ERP team to implement these software solutions in relation to tax.
  • Tax Transformation: We combine consulting skills in strategy, use of innovative new technology, and process improvement to help our clients manage their tax compliance, reporting and related obligations as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Digital Innovation: We have a growing Digital Innovation team to develop and take new ideas and concepts to the market, to solve our customers’ most complex challenges in a swift and radical way.   • Digital Tax Solutions (Engineering): Every software engineering project we work on is unique and has a different set of challenges relating to Tax. We solve individual client’s complex tax technology problems, as well as designing and delivering large-scale solutions to support Deloitte’s global tax client base. As part of this team, you will help us to build innovative solutions using different technologies to ensure these products scale to our global demands. You’ll learn the fundamentals of software development, as well as technologies like cloud services.

A leading UK bank needed a whole new approach to their IT. They asked us to scope, cost, plan, govern and deliver a transformation programme to support them. A diverse team from across Consulting and Financial Advisory worked together on the strategy and solutions- working hard to get this right for our client. We created a new product that helps companies to transfer payments between different countries more efficiently. With our help, they’ve been able to start a multi-year programme and deliver numerous key projects at the same time, while considerably reducing the time that needs the time that needs to be spent on minor administrative tasks. This improves systems for the bank’s clients, as well as simplifying processes for the bank’s staff so they can spend more time on other projects.

Innovation at the cutting edge of retail. In collaboration with Waitrose, we created an in-store, iBeacon prototype, which enables people’s smartphones to perform different actions when they are nearby.

This technology can interact with shoppers in a personalised way and understand consumer behaviour at a much deeper level, helping them to shop more efficiently. Together, we developed working prototypes within three weeks, so the cutting-edge project could be demonstrated at Waitrose’s concept store. The technology is now helping to increase efficiency for both staff and customers, for example by supporting them to find product reviews and items more quickly.

You joined through the BrightStart Programme. How did you find the application process? Any tips?

I found it pretty smooth. It mainly focused on my skills to work independently as well as part of a team. I did a group task, an exercise focused around the sort of tasks I would have to do if I got the job, and a couple of interviews. I’d always advise anyone preparing for the application process to do some research into the role you’re applying for and also to ask questions in your interview.

Is there anything you’ve been particularly surprised by since joining?

I’ve been surprised by how much of a team spirit there is within my office and service line. I thought that, given the size of the firm, it would be difficult to find that. But the reality is that I’ve become part of a great and supportive team who are genuinely invested in my development.

What attracted you to Deloitte?

I wanted to be part of a graduate scheme where I could continue my learning and development alongside working, which is something that was on offer at Deloitte. It’s also an influential place and they take care of the people who work here. In terms of the role I applied for, I was impressed by the breadth of work that the Ventures team covers and the drive towards experimentation.

How do you explain your job to friends and family?

I think the easiest way to explain what we do at Ventures is to say that we are constantly innovating to ensure that Deloitte stays ahead of the curve as a firm. We want our clients to get the best service possible, and the Ventures team is responsible for experimenting with the newest market trends to find out what works and what doesn’t, before we introduce it more widely. We are constantly on the lookout for new start-ups we can work with and new experiments we can try out.

What attracted you to Deloitte?

Before joining, I enjoyed learning about the Women in Cyber and Gender Diversity initiative that Deloitte had launched. There was also a very strong emphasis on the support and training that Deloitte was willing to invest in their employees to help them build their careers, which really attracted me to the firm.

How does Deloitte foster an inclusive environment?

As a neurodivergent individual sometimes it can be hard to be yourself and there’s a lot of stigma around it. At Deloitte I’ve been welcomed from the start and supported in my day to day working life. I am also a member of the Neurodiverse Community and when I first joined the firm, I was assigned a Neurodiverse Manager who got in touch with me to ensure I settled in well. Meanwhile the leaders in my team have told me I can approach them for additional support whenever I need it.

Can you tell us a bit about what you do in Forensics?

To put it simply, my job is to help organisations limit their exposure to financial crime. Working on preventing financial crime gives me a real sense of purpose because everything we do is another step towards making it harder for criminals to benefit from their illicit activities and a nudge towards making the world a more pleasant place. Fostered by Deloitte’s collaborative environment; we all have our part to play.

And what do you love about it?

I love that I’ve been encouraged to take on responsibilities that enable me to interact with the client. I think that’s so brilliant at such an early stage in my career. It’s allowed me to gain confidence, which puts me in good stead going forward.
