The New Zealand Government’s 2026 Budget will be delivered on Thursday 28 May.

As has been signalled by the Minister of Finance, Budget 2026 is expected to focus on core public services and fiscal discipline – directing limited new funding to key priorities, particularly health, education, defence, and law and order, while maintaining tight control of discretionary spending to help get the Government’s books back in order.

Delivered in an election year marked by global uncertainty – from inflation and fuel uncertainty to geopolitical instability, Budget 2026 signals a measured approach designed to prioritise stability now for sustainability over the longer term.
