The New Zealand Government’s 2026 Budget will be delivered on Thursday 28 May.
As has been signalled by the Minister of Finance, Budget 2026 is expected to focus on core public services and fiscal discipline – directing limited new funding to key priorities, particularly health, education, defence, and law and order, while maintaining tight control of discretionary spending to help get the Government’s books back in order.
While the year ahead brings its share of challenges - from inflation and fuel uncertainty to geopolitical instability and supply chain disruption, it also calls for careful navigation and steady progress. Against this backdrop, Budget 2026 is less about staying the course and more about setting the right direction for New Zealand’s economic success. Progress will depend on thoughtful choices and steady, well judged moves.
Deloitte experts will be sharing their insights in the lead up to, and following, the Government’s announcement on 28 May.
