The maturity of climate strategies in food sector

As part of the publication of the 2nd edition of the Climate Strategies Observatory, Deloitte and Carbon Maps are joining forces to assess the maturity of climate strategies from stakeholders throughout the food sector in France.

In this 2025 edition, we wanted to focus on the governance and organization implemented to operationalize climate strategies and reach the targets. Here are some of the questions we adressed:

  • Definition of the decarbonization pathway : have companies established their decarbonization pathway and formalized a coherent and effective transition plan?
  • Levers and barriers to the adoption of climate strategies : what are the main accelerators for the adoption of climate strategies and what are the major barriers to their implementation?
  • Involvement of different departments in climate governance: how do companies integrate the various departments and skills into climate governance bodies?
  • Tools and mechanisms to operationalize the climate strategy: How do companies equip themselves with the necessary tools to make their climate strategy operational and measurable?

This report is based on responses from nearly a hundred companies. This diverse sample, encompassing various industries, company sizes, and positions along the value chain, provides a relevant and nuanced overview of climate practices in the food sector.

Explore this study to discover current trends, best practices, and upcoming challenges for companies in the food sector in the face of climate issues.
