Tell us a little bit about yourself and your role at Deloitte.

I am a Manager in the Swiss Business Tax team, having embarked on my career at Deloitte as a Business Tax Consultant in February 2020, shortly after completing my master's in Accounting, Controlling, and Finance at the University of Lausanne. My interest in the tax profession was sparked during my master's studies, where I found the tax courses captivating and realised that this was the career path I wanted to pursue. I understood that a role in tax consultancy involves engaging with a dynamic and interdisciplinary field. When Deloitte expressed interest in my economic background, I promptly seized the opportunity to apply.

How has your role evolved since you joined?

Since joining Deloitte as a consultant, my role has evolved significantly. Initially, I focused on executing project tasks, conducting analyses, and supporting client engagements. As I progressed, I took on more responsibilities including managing client relationships. My transition to manager involved overseeing multiple projects, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to business development efforts. This journey has enhanced my leadership skills and deepened my expertise in delivering impactful solutions to clients.

Can you share a moment when you felt your work truly made a difference for a client or team?

One memorable moment was during a critical due diligence project for a major client. Together with my team members, we conducted a thorough analysis and identified key elements to bring to the attention of the client. Seeing the tangible impact of our work and the client's appreciation was incredibly rewarding, reaffirming the value of our efforts and the difference we can make.

How has Deloitte supported your professional growth and development?

Deloitte offered me the possibility to complete the Swiss Tax Academy, supported me with its financing, and provided time off for studying and preparing for the exams. Moreover, my team members were always encouraging and available to help when needed.

Can you describe a skill you’ve significantly improved during your time at Deloitte? How has it supported with your career development?

Since joining Deloitte, I have significantly enhanced my skills in managing client files and handling complex and varied tax matters. My ability to efficiently organise and oversee client files has improved, ensuring that all client information is meticulously maintained and readily accessible. Additionally, I have deepened my expertise in technical skills, allowing me to navigate intricate tax issues with precision and provide strategic advice tailored to diverse client needs. These skills have been pivotal in delivering high-quality services and driving successful outcomes for our clients.

How would you describe the team culture and environment in Tax?

Our team culture and environment are characterised by a strong sense of collaboration and support. Team members and senior leaders are highly approachable, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable seeking guidance and sharing ideas. There is a culture of knowledge sharing, with regular opportunities for learning and development through formal training sessions, informal discussions, and mentorship programmes. Overall, the Tax department is a dynamic and engaging place to work, where teamwork and professional development are highly valued.

What advice would you give someone considering a role in Tax Consulting?

A role in Tax Consulting can be highly rewarding. To succeed, stay curious and informed about evolving tax laws, develop strong analytical and communication skills, and build relationships through networking. Embrace technology to enhance efficiency, be detail-oriented to ensure accuracy, and seek mentorship and feedback for continuous improvement. Understanding client needs and tailoring your advice accordingly will foster trust and satisfaction.
