Tell us a little bit about yourself and your role at Deloitte.

My name is Rachelle and I started as a Consultant in the M&A Tax team in September 2024. Before starting at Deloitte, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Gallen, including an exchange semester at Sciences Po Paris.

How long have you been with Deloitte, and what attracted you to the firm?

To date, I have been with Deloitte for approximately seven months. I was especially attracted to Deloitte due to its excellence in professional services and the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects, not only with my direct team members but also with colleagues from other member firms and service lines (for example Strategy, Risk & Transactions Advisory).

What does a typical day look like in your role?

As a Consultant in the M&A Tax team, no two days are the same. Given that we manage several projects concurrently, my daily tasks can vary widely. On any given day, I might be preparing due diligence reports or structuring papers, coordinating different aspects of a project, or supporting in tax compliance services. Additionally, I am actively involved in client meetings and responsible for managing client communication.

Can you share an example of a project you’ve worked on and what your contributions were?

In the M&A Tax team, we oversee multiple transactions across diverse industries and sectors. My role in each project involves preparing due diligence reports or structuring papers, participating in both internal and external client meetings, and handling client communication to ensure smooth project execution. Further, as multiple teams (e.g. Transfer Pricing, VAT, Financial Services, etc.) work on a specific transaction, I oversee our internal project management to ensure a well-rounded client deliverable.

In our daily business the primary focus is always on the client. It is of utmost importance to thoroughly understand the client’s needs, to not only deliver a high-quality product, but to ensure that our deliverable is value-adding and comprehensive, enabling the client to take immediate and tailored action.

How would you describe your team?

Competent, cool, and collaborative! We are a diverse and open team, who work together to deliver high-quality services to our clients, leveraging each other's strengths and expertise.

We also work a lot with other teams and countries, which diversifies our daily business and internal interactions even more.

What training and development programs have you participated in? How have they helped you grow professionally?

Since joining Deloitte, I have participated in several training and development programs that have been instrumental in my professional growth.

These include the firm-wide welcome day in September, followed by an intensive onboarding week tailored to all new joiners in Tax & Legal in October. Additionally, I have completed various internal e-learnings and attended specialized internal trainings on Swiss tax law. A particularly valuable experience was the graduate boot camp a few weeks ago, which was designed to help new consultants navigate the business environment and enhance client interaction skills.

Additionally, in my role I’m strongly encouraged to work independently, which empowers me to take ownership of my tasks and develop critical thinking skills. What makes my role uniquely supportive is that as a team member you are never alone – there are always leaders available to offer guidance and provide valuable insights. This balance creates a dynamic learning environment where I can grow through hands-on experience while benefiting from mentorship, trainings, and internal expertise.

What qualities or skills do you think are important for success in your role?

In my role as a Consultant in M&A Tax, strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, and an affinity for numbers is highly advantageous. Moreover, the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances is vital in our dynamic environment, as flexibility and critical thinking can significantly impact the success of a project. These qualities, combined with effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset, are key to a successful career in our team.
