We autonomously illuminate global supplier networks invisible to the very original equipment manufacturers (OEM) they support. Our automated, artificial intelligence–driven platform utilizes advanced analytic techniques to uncover and illuminate multitiered, geographically disaggregated supplier networks in hours and days. CentralSight™ does this via unsupervised and supervised machine learning, social media exploitation, deep web diligence, and curated subscription proprietary diligence databases.

We focus on the inevitable byproducts of the millions of transactions supplier networks generate with each other and with adjacent industries.

Challenge:

  • Illuminate the multitier supplier network for a major information technology platform
  • Identify the most impactful risks across manufacturing and production locations, corporate levels, and cross-program dependent suppliers
  • Provide clear and actionable recommendations to mitigate and reduce supply chain risk

Outcome:

  •  Summarized three main tactical manifestations of risk: Weaponized M&A, financial distress, and counterfeit electronic parts
  • Identified a state-sponsored attempt by Canyon Bridge Partners, a special-purpose acquisition vehicle set up by the People’s Republic of China, to acquire critical information technology supplier Lattice Semiconductor
  • Deloitte generated the foundational analysis to support the successful Lattice CFIUS case and eventual acquisition block determination by the President of the United States

Challenge:

  • Client limited by a lack of visibility into the logistics networks and infrastructure of nine mission-critical supply chains (+3.5M items) in specified countries and regions
  • Client facing cultural and customs issues related to tracking strategic materials, leading to supply constraints and unclear dependencies across the warfighter program
  • Requested a cost-effective way to continually monitor supply networks, infrastructure, and constraints

Outcome:

  • Developed Industrial Base Extension Program (IBEX) reports for 29 countries, providing targeted information intended to:
    • Improve DLA’s ability to leverage commercial sectors to respond to the US government’s mobilization needs
    • Reduce costs associated with maintaining visibility over commercial logistical assets
  • The IBEX reports provided an overview of the regional infrastructure, logistic service providers, and vendors of classes of supply

Challenge:

  • Company X, a supplier of starter motor assembly for four client models, was pursuing an aggressive localization strategy, concentrating operations in small clusters. This strategy posed risk to the client’s supply chain.
  • The client needed the ability to identify and triage critical risks in the starter motor assembly network.

Outcome:

  • The team uncovered 13 thematic macro risks and 11 individual company-level risks beyond Company X’s threatening concentration strategy.
  • Detailed analysis revealed 13 concentration, consolidation, capacity, and secondary risks present across multiple subcomponents procured from different subtier suppliers.
  • Due diligence resulted in an estimated $24 billion in averted losses due to the potential DMTN plant shutdown.
  • Supplier illumination insight allowed the client to diversify its supplier network and avoid concentration risk.

Challenge:

  • Through advanced supply chain illumination technology and ongoing monitoring services provided by Deloitte's Supplier Risk Mitigation Program for Health Care, signals were picked up around a potential shortage of specific phlebotomy supplies and shared with program members more than three weeks before it became common knowledge.
  • Program members quickly needed to identify alternative supply options, verify supplier legitimacy, and stockpile supplies before being put on allocation.

Outcome:

  • The Supplier Risk Mitigation Program helped its members ensure the availability of critical supplies without jeopardizing quality of patient care (through vendor intelligence support) and helped them avoid paying exceptional cost.
  • One provider gained up to 120 days of safety stock and experienced $450,000 in cost avoidance, while the supply chain team looked good in the process in front of both senior executives and clinicians.
Approximately 25 percent of the supply-side disruptions occur at Tier 2+, which makes it critical to understand and illuminate risks well in advance, providing enough decision space for mitigation actions.
