What most attracted you to Deloitte?

I joined the army after university in 1991 and was part of the Royal Signals. I have always been interested in tech and was involved in numerous telecommunication projects during my time there. After 30 years in the Army, I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to put down some roots with my family and focus on work/life balance. Having worked with private sector clients for many years already, I was approached by quite a few contacts when I said I was leaving. Deloitte had an excellent reputation and I felt there was lots of scope for development in the defence sector. I also wanted to be at a place that I felt had good people around me, and it felt like the right fit culturally.

How do you feel Deloitte supports flexible working?

I’ve taken on a flexible position, working four days every other week This gives me the time I need to support my family, while allowing me to make a positive impact at the firm. After working solidly so long and being sent off anywhere, I wanted a bit more control over my work and life. Now I can work from home, pick up my children from school or go to an event with them and then start work again. It also leaves me more time to care for elderly parents and pursue hobbies, including coaching an under 12s hockey team at the weekends. Whatever your situation, Deloitte encourages people to maintain a healthy work/life balance and build a career that works for you. For some people that might be clocking off and 3pm to pick up children, for others it might mean taking sabbaticals or secondments.

What are the best things about your job?

It’s such an inspiring place to work; everyone you talk to is working on something interesting. There are always so many exciting things to get involved with that it’s a challenge to prioritise where to spend your time. Everyone always says “it’s the people”, and that’s true. Working for a brand you feel proud of feels pretty good too. And you don’t have any stress about fitting into a particular stereotype, because there are so many different types of people in Deloitte Digital.

Tell us about your most exciting project

There have been various highlights over the years, a number come to mind; implementing a visualisation tool that helps an auction house see who’s bought each piece of art, designing how a new loyalty scheme would work in a large retailer, getting a large department store ready for a switch over to a new contact centre solution, and implementing technology that provides a luxury retailer with a single view of all their customers and the enabling tools that allow them to use this for more personalised marketing and better customer service.

How would you describe what you do in Cyber?

I think that people assume ‘Cyber’ only relates to hacking and the implementation of security solutions, but it’s so much more than that. We help our clients with strategy, risk management, governance and assessment of their overall security position. We are involved with everything relating to information security and that’s what I find so interesting - I’m always learning.

Tell us about your most interesting project

I really enjoy working on Cyber Target Operating Models. We look at a client’s information security situation including strategy, operations, organisation design and processes. We then assess that against industry standards, competitor activity and regulatory requirements: all to find the most effective way for them to manage and grow their teams. I’ve worked with all sorts of clients from global financial services firms to large transport and logistics companies. I love getting to see inside their businesses to understand their culture and the issues they face. Applying my experience to help resolve their challenges is so rewarding.

Why should someone join Deloitte Digital?

I joined through the Graduate programme in 2011. At the time I was working as a personal trainer. One of my clients was a Management Consultant so I was always hearing about her work and it sounded really interesting. I also knew a couple of people who’d joined Deloitte, including another personal trainer in my gym. I knew I wanted to do something different with my career so I decided to go back to Uni and do a Masters in Business Management. It was during that time that I applied for Deloitte. Now I work in the Marketing & Insight team in Deloitte Digital. I’ve worked on various projects across lots of different industries – but most of my experience has been with marketing departments from Telco and Consumer Business organisations.

It Services

Teams within IT services

Architecture
The Architecture team takes care of everything from business processes through to physical infrastructure. They are responsible for assessing new requests, ensuring that change is consistent with the roadmaps and is delivered in a maintainable and cost-effective fashion.
Finance & Administration
The Finance & Administration team is responsible for the activities required to support the rest of the IT functions. It includes IT Finance, Software Licensing Compliance, IT Vendor Management, IT Contracts and IT Administration.
IT Risk & Security
The IT Risk and Security team is responsible for managing risk, policy, and compliance for our IT systems.
Business Relationship Management
The Business Relationship Management team is responsible for proactively managing the relationship and communications between the service lines and the IT Services team. They are the first port of call for new requirements.
Projects & Applications
The Projects & Applications team are responsible for the delivery of new IT systems and services, as well as any significant changes to existing systems and services. They operate to cost, time and quality criteria determined on an individual project basis.
Service Operations
The Service Operations team comprises two teams: one in the UK and one in Switzerland. These teams deliver day-to-day operational services to support our business activities.
