One Young World, one giant leap for young leaders

Through our partnership with not-for-profit One Young World, we empower our young leaders to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges.

Meet Aimee, Victoria and Mohammed from our 2022 and 2024 One Young World cohorts. They reflect on how the experience is shaping their careers, supporting their personal development and empowering them to make a difference in their communities.

Aimee Chetcuti, Deloitte Malta

“Even small steps can be powerful.”

Aimee Chetcuti believes in the power of sport to address mental health challenges and served as a mental health advocate at the 2022 One Young World summit. She works in the Deloitte Malta People & Purpose team, supporting the inclusion and wellbeing strategy and fostering a positive experience for our people, to ensure that our commitment to our people remains at the heart of everything we do.

What did you learn from the summit?
The conference was filled with countless inspiring moments. Whether you're standing in line, or in the audience waiting for the next speaker, you find yourself surrounded by people sharing what they're up to, what they do in their countries and what they're passionate about. It was fascinating.

After the conference, I realised that no matter who we are, where we come from and what skills we have, we all have the potential to make a real difference in the world and influence what truly matters to us.

How has being a One Young World Ambassador helped you professionally?
The leadership programme covered things like inclusion and public relations, with each session bringing something new to the table. After the summit, I gained new connections, deeper knowledge and a greater awareness of what's happening within different firms outside of our region, like the Americas, Asia Pacific and Africa.

Victoria Isa Daniel, Deloitte Ireland

“The exchange of knowledge was profound.”

Working in Immigration Services, Victoria Isa Daniel is passionate about advocating for more inclusive and humane policies for those seeking asylum. Based in Deloitte Ireland, Victoria was a member of the 2024 One Young World cohort and attended the summit in Montréal.

What did you find most inspiring about participating in One Young World?
The most impactful part of attending the summit was the sheer diversity of voices and perspectives. It was incredibly empowering to be surrounded by young leaders from all over the world who are committed to addressing critical issues such as climate change, human rights and inequality.

This diversity underscored the importance of inclusivity and collaboration in solving global challenges. Personally, it reinforced my commitment to ensuring that marginalised voices - particularly Indigenous and refugee communities - are heard and represented.

What was the most surprising part of the summit?
One unexpected moment was realising how much we can learn from intergenerational dialogues. In several sessions, younger leaders collaborated with more experienced professionals and elders from Indigenous communities, and the exchange of knowledge was profound. It reinforced the idea that innovation can arise from a blend of traditional wisdom and modern solutions.

This experience taught me the importance of listening deeply and valuing all types of knowledge, especially in contexts related to social justice and sustainability.

How has the experience shaped your perspective?
One Young World highlighted the importance of collaborative and inclusive approaches to leadership. I realised that effective leadership isn't about leading from the front but often about creating spaces for others to lead.

The global challenges we face - such as climate change, inequality and displacement - require us to think beyond traditional solutions and involve those who have been historically excluded from decision-making processes. This has deepened my commitment to an inclusive, justice-oriented form of leadership.

Mohammed Aboukhachab, Deloitte UK

“I'm passionate about bridging the gap between the corporate world and disadvantaged communities.”

Working in Deloitte UK’s Infrastructure and Real Estate team, Mohammed was a member of NSE’s 2024 One Young World cohort.

What was the most impactful aspect of your experience at the One Young World summit?
One Young World was a revelation. Hearing from global leaders like Justin Trudeau and Nobel laureates like Tawakkol Karman was amazing, but it was the unsung heroes who truly ignited my soul. Young people like Ricardo Andres Pineda Guzman, who is using AI to electrify schools in Honduras with minimal resources, showed me the power we all have to create change.

How has attending One Young World influenced your commitment to social impact and your work at Deloitte?
Coming from a disadvantaged background myself, I'm passionate about bridging the gap between the corporate world and disadvantaged communities.
