So far, the role of the Chief of Staff in Italy has never been the subject of in-depth studies. This research aims to fill this gap and explore for the first time the skills, operational dynamics, and strategic impact of this figure on the Italian scene. The goal is to understand its value, positioning compared to other managerial roles, and contribution to business decisions, with a look at the potential evolutions inspired by international experiences.
The research report addresses the analysis from two main perspectives: on one side the analysis of professionals in the role of Chief of Staff; on the other side, the analysis of companies that have integrated the role into their structure. The research methodology followed a mixed approach which, by integrating quantitative and qualitative methodologies, allows for a more complete and in-depth analysis of the role of Chief of Staff in Italian companies.
The quantitative analysis is based on a sample of 147 Chief of Staff from 120 different companies, while the qualitative analysis was conducted through 11 interviews with Italian Chief of Staff.
Multifaceted and dynamic, the Chief of Staff plays a central role in various strategic areas of the company: from improving internal coordination to operational efficiency, from strategic support to the CEO to managing change and business priorities. The Chief of Staff acts as a strategic facilitator, improving operational efficiency, decision-making, and alignment between leadership and executive teams.
The current growth trend suggests that the role of the Chief of Staff is set to evolve further, establishing itself as a key strategic function of primary importance that brings positive impacts on company performance.
