Work Permit Processing Update for Turkish Nationals

Due to an increased volume of applications for Turkish nationals, extended processing times can be expected.

On 1 September 2025, SIRI announced that due to a high volume of applications for Turkish nationals, which exceeds the authority’s capacity, extended processing times can be expected for these cases.

SIRI has determined that all applications for Turkish nationals will be processed separately. Consequently, applications under schemes such as the Fast Track or Pay Limit may experience extended processing times, despite the standard processing time of one month.

SIRI is prioritizing the issue but anticipates that this situation will continue into 2026.

Key points to note

  • If you are recruiting Turkish nationals, please be aware that processing times may exceed the standard service goals
  • We recommend setting realistic or flexible employment start dates to accommodate potential delays
  • Both the employee and the company should be informed about the possibility of longer processing times to manage expectations effectively
  • If the employee can enter Denmark by alternative means, such as holding a valid Schengen visa, the issuance of a provisional work permit may be considered to prevent delays to the scheduled start date

We acknowledge the official announcement, which brings clarity to a trend we have observed in recent cases.

Our recommendation

Companies currently recruiting Turkish nationals should prepare for longer processing times and align expectations accordingly for both the company and the employee. If the employee holds a valid Schengen visa, a provisional work permit can be considered.

We will continue to monitor the situation and hope for a quick resolution. If you have any questions, you are welcome to get in touch with us.
