From droughts and wildfires to hurricanes and flooding, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe, and the climate crisis has emerged as one of the defining challenges of our time.
But over the past year, we have also been reminded how big challenges can inspire tremendous human ingenuity and creative solutions. Organizations committed to climate action are taking significant steps to bring their commitments to life, even in the face of economic headwinds and an energy crisis.
Deloitte is helping to lead the way toward a lower-carbon future by advising clients on their sustainability journeys, as well as through our own meaningful, measurable actions. We are also extending our impact by empowering our 457,000 people around the world, influencing our suppliers and engaging across the broader ecosystem.
Climate change effects are being felt more intensely around the world. The increased frequency of adverse weather events over the last year is a constant reminder that climate change is happening more quickly and with greater intensity than predicted. The window for action to prevent the catastrophic effects of climate change is rapidly closing.
Deloitte is helping lead the transformation toward a lower-carbon future. We’re advising clients on their sustainability journeys, as well as implementing our own meaningful, measurable, transparent actions. We continue to advance WorldClimate, Deloitte’s environmental sustainability ambition, achieving notable progress and laying the groundwork for further climate action in the year ahead. We are also extending our impact beyond ourselves by empowering our people, influencing our suppliers, and engaging and collaborating across the broader ecosystem.

In FY2023, we created the Choose To Refuse Challenge, where we encouraged our people in Deloitte Trinidad to come together to do sustainable activities utilizing environmentally friendly materials. For this challenge we decided on a clean-up at the 100 Steps beach, Trinidad. Our team gathered, sorted, and properly discarded approximately 200lbs of litter from the beach. Eco-friendly materials were used, including biodegradable trash bags, fabric garden gloves, latex biodegradable gloves and a garden rake.
Our impact made the beach 200lbs of litter lighter. It is our hope to inspire others to do the same. We are so happy that Deloitte is committed to environmental sustainability; that as staff we are allotted time throughout the year to make an impact!

Over 75 members of staff at our Deloitte Bermuda office stepped away from their desks to volunteer with local non-profits. On three different days during the fiscal year, our people volunteered with various organizations, including the Bermuda Aquarium & Zoo, the Living Reef Foundation, and the St. George’s Foundation.
In our office in the Cayman Islands, volunteers gave time to several environmental non-profits and conservation projects including Plastic Free Cayman’s, the Blue Iguana Conservation, Reef Renewal Cayman Islands’ East End Coral Nursery, and the Cayman Islands Humane Society.
It was an amazing experience volunteering with the National Trust. We spent the day clearing invasives to preserve endangered species, while also planting new trees and mounting park benches. Despite the light showers throughout the day, no one on the team was discouraged. It was fully satisfying to contribute our part in making Bermuda’s environment more sustainable for the future.

Our team at Deloitte Cayman Islands participates annually in this fundraiser organized by the Cayman Turtle Conservation and Education Centre ‘CTCEC’ in support of the marine conservation of green sea turtles. We were pleased to support again, and help continue the Centre's research, conservation, and education programs; all working together with one key goal at heart – Saving our Cayman Sea Turtles.
In recognition of World Earth Day, Deloitte British Virgin Islands partnered with Ethaen’s Farm, a family-owned organic farm in Tortola, to educate students at Willard Wheatley Primary School on the importance of sustainable agriculture and reforestation to sustainable living and preserving the earth. During this initiative, a variety of 150 locally grown seedlings of herbs, vegetables, and fruits were re-planted and given to each student to care for at home.
Deloitte Bermuda has been a proud sponsor of the Youth Climate Summit, hosted by the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) since its inception in 2021. This year, we continued our commitment to educating Bermuda’s youth on climate change as Visionary Partner.
The weeklong event allowed students to hear from and directly speak with local and global experts, leaders, and activists in Environmental Conservation, Sustainability, and Climate Justice. Following the Summit, the participants have begun launching their individual initiatives, partnering with local NGOs on a year-long, action-based volunteer project managed by a peer-elected Youth Climate Advisory Board.
At the Summit's Environmental Trade Show, Deloitte had a booth presence where ten of staff members volunteered throughout the day, sharing info about our ESG policies, service offerings, and handing out wireless earbuds made from recycled materials.
As one of the Principal Conference Sponsors of this leading global investment management conference, Deloitte Cayman Islands has made sustainability a focus on the agenda over the years through various initiatives. In 2023, in lieu of merchandising, we donated to Reef Renewal Cayman Islands and the Cayman Turtle Conservation and Education Centre, two non-profits that are working to help mitigate the impact of climate change in the Cayman Islands.
Deloitte was thrilled to support the Youth Climate Summit for the second year. The event provides an emersive educational experience for hundreds of middle and high school students, aimed at piquing a long-standing interest in climate justice and activism. At Deloitte, we’re committed to bettering our society and local environment, and our partnership with the BUEI on this fantastic initiative is always an easy choice.

Wreck Week Coastal Clean-up
Our team in the British Virgin Islands joined Beyond the Reef and other volunteers in beach cleanup activities during “BVI Wreck Week.” These activities focused on Anegada, the archipelago’s only coral island, surrounded by coral reefs and sunken shipwrecks. Our people removed coastal trash and also cleaned around a critical turtle nesting area frequented by the Anegada flamingos and abandoned “ghost fishing” gear along the coast. We were pleased to be a part of preserving the natural beauty of Anegada and maintaining an environment hospitable to the island’s rich biodiversity.
William’s Town Beach Clean-up
Through our partnership with the Keep Grand Bahama Clean (KGBC) committee, over 70 pounds of garbage was collected by our Deloitte Bahamas team on William’s Town Beach in Freeport, Grand Bahama. This initiative reflects our shared understanding of the scope of action required to preserve our environment and the importance of partnerships and empowering each other to deepen our collective impact.
Earth Day Beach Clean-up
Our Cayman Islands office joined more than 2,500 volunteers at the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce's Earth Day beach clean-up. We were proud to make a meaningful impact in our community, collectively clearing two truckloads of debris and recyclable materials.
