2023 Global Technology Leadership Study

The Transformational Tech Leader: Driving change to unlock growth and deliver lasting impact

Now, more than ever before, tech executives need to be strategic change agents who shape and spark the ambitions of entire companies while maintaining the integrity of the infrastructure that enables it all. Deloitte’s 2023 Global Technology Leadership Study reveals valuable insights and perspectives from more than 1,000 technology leaders across the world, covering a range of topics that emerged across four key themes.

Whereas technology once enabled the business, it now drives the business. Explore how leaders are adapting as a result.

Key insights: Tech leaders are focusing their attention on three areas.

Reimagining talent strategy

It’s talent, not technology, that could determine the success of your organization. More than 50% of tech leaders reported that flexible/hybrid work environments are the top way to retain high-performing tech talent.

Unlocking growth

No matter what industry you’re in, there is opportunity to monetize your data and tech. More than 30% of organizations are currently doing just that, plus another 16% are planning to do so in the next two years.

Articulating tech value

Bigger budgets often bring increased scrutiny. Leaders should be thoughtful in allocating capital and articulating value, yet 61% of respondents find it difficult to quantify the benefits of individual tech investments.

About the research

Deloitte surveyed 1,179 global leaders, including chief information officers (CIOs), chief technology officers (CTOs), and other senior technology decision-makers. We also conducted qualitative interviews with more than 100 technology executives spanning a range of sectors. They shared their perspectives on talent shortages, data integrity and security, the rise of automation as well as the reconfiguration of the technology function.
