Welcome to Deloitte, a place where even the simplest conversation can spark help connect your personal purpose around sustainability with a larger network all working toward that same goal. That’s how it went for me, anyways.

As a new hire at Deloitte a few years ago, my initial weeks were all about building connections with colleagues. During an introductory call, one casual mention of my passion for low-waste living led to an unexpected opportunity: the formation of the first US Delivery Center (USDC) Green Team, a Deloitte-wide sustainability initiative, that I eventually helped co-found.

At Deloitte, our purpose is to make an impact that matters. When I first learned about Green Teams, I was instantly motivated to contribute. The Deloitte US Green Team Network is a group of cross-business Deloitte professionals who aim to make Deloitte a more sustainable place to work while empowering fellow professionals to take action on climate change and live more environmentally conscious lives. Recognizing our USDC offices had not yet formed such a team, my personal purpose was ignited, and I was motivated to become involved.

I began collaborating with other professionals and members of Deloitte’s US Sustainability and Climate Change team within our Purpose and DEI Office to craft a proposal. Our goal is to further embed sustainable practices into our workplace culture and continue to empower our colleagues to prioritize sustainability in their daily choices, at work and beyond.

I feel like I am truly making a personal impact at Deloitte. The existence of Green Teams highlights an opportunity to make an impact. There are now 35 Green Teams across the United States, offering opportunities for professionals to elevate sustainability initiatives and insights from the ground up.

When I started a few years ago, I was told that Deloitte is a place where you can create your own career journey. And for me, that’s been true.

It’s easy for me to get absorbed in client work. However, taking an opportunity to share my passion for environmental sustainability opened the door to individuals I likely would never have encountered in my usual professional circle.

A real emphasis on networking at Deloitte has helped me meet people who share my passions. Through my work with Green Teams, I’ve been able to connect with professionals in other member firms around the world.

Embracing my passions and welcoming new opportunities aligned to my purpose has significantly expanded my professional network. This journey has revealed numerous opportunities for my career growth. I am deeply appreciative of the relationships I forged at Deloitte that have enabled these possibilities that help make my work and personal impact meaningful to me.
