The US Navy’s Tactical Networks Program Office, PMW 160, is responsible for afloat network infrastructure and basic network information distribution services. One of the critical priorities of the program office is training sailors who operate and manage the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) network. In the search for a training environment that removed the need for a physical hardware stack in the classroom, the Navy called Deloitte for help.
The Office of Recovery Services (ORS), a division of Utah Department of Human Services (DHS), wanted to modernize their 25-year-old Office of Recovery Services Information System (ORSIS) Child Support system. The ORSIS Child Support system was deployed on a mainframe platform using COBOL computer programming language. The existing technology was limiting ORS’s ability to change its business processes and scale. In addition, the maintenance was expensive, and it was challenging to find staff who understood the technology. Deloitte has helped the ORS address their challenges, by developing a solution with AWS and innoWake™.
The State of Maryland’s Department of Human Services (DHS) is the state’s primary social service provider, assisting over two million people each year. DHS had a strategic imperative to modernize in order to provide and track social services to a third of its residents, plan for a growing population, and to provide as much aid as possible to citizens. For the Maryland DHS to better serve its constituents, moving data to the cloud offered a unique, collaborative opportunity. Deloitte Consulting and the Maryland DHS began collaborating on MD THINK, the Maryland Total Human Services Integrated Network, to be a new agile, scalable, unified cloud platform that would transform the state’s ability to deliver vital human services to the state’s citizens. With Deloitte at its side, Maryland DHS began its largest modernization effort ever.
In Tennessee, the Department of Human Services (TDHS) administers the Child Support Program with services provided by local district attorneys, DHS staff and private agencies under contract through its 48 child support offices. TDHS recognized that their 25-year old child support system needed platform and technology modernization. The existing technology was hampering integration with enterprise-wide shared services and technologies, as well as limiting the implementation of functionality that would help to better serve the citizens of the State of Tennessee. Deloitte delivered a solution to migrate Tennessee’s automated child support system (TCSES) application from its legacy mainframe environment (z/OS, COBOL, CA Gen, Easytrieve, JCL, etc.) to a new Linux operating system, new Java code, and a modernized AWS Cloud infrastructure.
Deloitte’s client is a marketplace for affordable coverage that is open to millions of residents. The client, a state, needed a systems upgrade, and officials expected considerable capital expense if they were to buy new on-premises hardware and software and renew the state’s data center lease. State decision-makers wanted to migrate the health benefit exchange to the cloud, reducing both the capital costs to replace aging infrastructure and ongoing operational costs. A cloud environment would also provide a consistent customer experience through system load, as well as improve network security and availability. The state turned to Deloitte and AWS.
