Merck, a leading global biopharmaceutical company, deployed an enterprise-wide cloud-based data and analytics platform to advance product development and commercialization. The platform, named the Real World Data Exchange (RWDEx), was built on AWS and leverages Amazon Redshift and the Deloitte ConvergeHEALTH Miner suite as its foundation. The RWDEx is an open, API-first platform and serves a broad set of stakeholders, from data scientists to business users.

Deloitte and AWS helped this Pennsylvania-based regional health system migrate electronic health records and more than 900 applications to the cloud. In addition to the migration itself, the project team helped redirect the resulting savings to support training the system’s IT staff and users in using the new platform.

With 11 hospitals and hundreds of urgent care and clinical locations, this southeastern regional physicians’ group engaged Deloitte Consulting to conduct a pilot migration of EHR on AWS for fully managed, reliable EHR services. With an estimated 30% lower total cost of ownership and a speed to market of less than one week to stand up infrastructure and environments, the pilot demonstrated that EHR on AWS can provide Piedmont Healthcare with a reliable architecture plus agility, scalability, and speed.
