Meeting you where you are – the human side of clinical psychology work

As a Clinical Social Worker, my passion has always been rooted in helping people have a greater sense of agency in their lives and in navigating their health and well-being. I love that my role at Deloitte allows me to do just that for our professionals and their loved ones.

Before joining Deloitte, I served on active duty in the United States military as a Clinical Social Worker. I had the honor of caring for Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, and their family members, with a focus on improving mental health awareness and enhancing resilience and psychological readiness of active-duty service members. When I came upon the opportunity to work with Deloitte’s Integrated Mental Health Services (IMHS) team, the position felt like the perfect fit.

Not only did I feel connected to Deloitte through the Veteran and Military community, but my role as a consulting clinician on the IMHS team allowed me to immediately connect with fellow Deloitte professionals. The program offers customized solutions to meet the individual, team, and organizational needs of our people, which is unique, important, and helps to set us apart from other similar programs in the industry. I am energized by the opportunity to enhance the health and psychological health literacy of our professionals every day and help support the narrative around psychological health throughout the organization. One of the key drivers that IMHS uses to help empower our people and change the conversation around psychological health is the psychological health continuum.

This continuum is a concept that recognizes that psychological health is not binary and tends to fluctuate throughout our lives. It isn’t so much about specific circumstances, but rather how you’re experiencing life in a given moment and how you respond to the circumstances in which you find yourself. What you need today may be different from what you need tomorrow or a month from now. It's expected to move between thriving or challenging experiences....and sometimes even a psychological crisis – in fact, most of us fall somewhere between these two extremes most of the time.

It’s exciting to be part of a team that recognizes the complexities and fluidity of psychological health and has developed services to reflect this. It’s what makes working at IMHS and Deloitte truly remarkable and rewarding for me. I’m proud to work in a place where I can foster meaningful connections, and feel that I have an impact on our people and the organization.

From the US Navy to IMHS

As I transitioned into a reserve status with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and re-entered the civilian working world, I knew that finding a role where I could balance continued service to the country and supporting others in their growth and healing within the clinical psychological health space would be key for me.

From my initial contact with one of Deloitte’s Military and Veteran recruiters, I felt Deloitte genuinely valued the knowledge and experiences veterans bring to the community, and during my first year at Deloitte, I feel that Deloitte as a whole consistently demonstrates the values and shared purpose through action and impact. The Veterans, Military, Spouses & Allies Community within the organization was accessible and supportive. Feeling that there was a community of colleagues and allies who shared similar experiences to me was so valuable.
