A passion for learning attracted Drew Moyer to Deloitte’s tax team fresh out of college, where for five years he soaked up all aspects of tax, finding his niche working with large corporations. Then and now, his enthusiasm for learning extends beyond his own growth—Drew seizes every opportunity, formal or informal, to guide and nurture budding tax professionals.
Even after leaving Deloitte to test his skills at another company, his zest for learning lured him back two years later. “I’m a boomerang,” Drew laughs. “I missed the constant exposure to new and different things.”
Returning to Deloitte did bring some concerns for Drew though. At the time, he and his wife were in the midst of adopting their second child. Uncertain about the timing and how it would be perceived at work, Drew openly discussed the situation with his potential team leaders. To his relief, they immediately set his mind at ease, encouraging him to take the time he needed to bond with the new baby.
When daughter Sloane joined the family about eight months later, Drew took Paid Family Leave, knowing he had the full support of his leaders and colleagues. He says, “We were able to form a tight bond as a family, with lots of snuggles and daily walks.” Drew also appreciated Deloitte’s Adoption Reimbursement Program that provided financial assistance with the adoption fees, which played a vital role in welcoming both children into the family.
Fast forward three years, and Drew’s children show the same joy in learning new things as their dad. Sloane is flipping cartwheels, while his son Graham thrives under Drew’s guidance in football and baseball. Drew values the flexibility Deloitte has provided him, which helps him thrive personally and professionally. He appreciates being able to coach his son’s teams and be present for these precious moments.
But Drew knows the importance of self-care too. Armed with Deloitte’s Well-being Subsidy, he’s covered his slow-pitch softball registration fees, purchased a treadmill and rounded out his golf club set. Drew knows that finding equilibrium in his personal life fuels his professional drive.
