It was June 2020 and received a letter from Deloitte’s then-CEO. The words on that page are why I’m still here today.

During the height of the pandemic, there was civil unrest in the country, and I accepted the opportunity, earlier in that year, to take on a new role in IT at Deloitte. I was looking to work at a place that I felt aligned with my values, one that was consistent and truly cared about its people. I asked my recruiter to send an email to the CEO at the time asking him about Deloitte’s culture and its support for the social issues I cared about as a young Black, lesbian woman. His responses were exactly what I hoped to hear.

That kind of support isn’t something I always had. I lived on the streets of Detroit after coming out to my family. It took years for me to feel accepted and welcomed back to my family, so I know firsthand the world doesn’t always feel like a safe place for people who look and love like I do.

Fast forward to today and Deloitte’s consistency is why I’m still here. I feel cared for, validated, and valued as a person every day. Deloitte helps me give back to causes I care about, both through volunteering events and donations. As someone who’s goal in life is to serve others, I love working at a place where I get to do that for clients and feel that Deloitte helps me serve my community, too.
