Covering adoption, use cases, training, governance, leadership and shadow AI, it provides an unprecedented view of how employees are using the technology today.
The survey's core finding is that GenAI use is currently widespread, but still shallow. Many workers have tried it, but few use it every day. Most use it for familiar tasks, primarily writing emails, searching for information and creating summaries, rather than rethinking how work gets done.
The survey also highlights important barriers to realising value. Most workers have had no training, shadow AI is common, and only a minority feel confident that their leaders fully understand the implications of GenAI.
This points to a critical challenge for organisations: technology investment alone does not create value.
Unlocking GenAI's potential requires investment in people as well as technology. Organisations that are conscious of this and equip their workforce with the skills, confidence, and guidance to use AI responsibly will likely be best positioned to move beyond experimentation, transform how work is done and create lasting business value.

The chart shows how usage of GenAI varies among respondents across industries, roles, gender and locations. Men (15%) are more likely to use GenAI multiple times a day than women (9%), while usage is higher inside London than outside. Respondents in marketing roles were over twice as likely as the UK workforce overall to use GenAI multiple times a day (26% to 12%). Industries such as Information and Communications (31%) and Financial / Banking / Insurance (20%) also had higher proportions of respondents using GenAI at least once per day.
Of the entire UK workforce has used GenAI
GenAI users do so without their employer’s knowledge
GenAI users have received no training
GenAI users hear their leaders speak about it with a good understanding
The chart shows how much time respondents say they actually save a week as a result of using GenAI. Across the survey, 7% of respondents said they saved 5 or more hours at work every week by using GenAI - a number that increases to 21% in the Information and Communications industry but drops to 5% in Healthcare / Social work. Around 30% of respondents said that GenAI saved them at least some time per week. 31% of respondents said they had used GenAI at work but saved no time by doing so.
The workforce has embraced GenAI, but adoption is only part of the story. Explore our findings further to understand how GenAI is affecting productivity, creating new risks and how training and leadership will be critical to long-term success.
