Sustainable delivery with Haleon

Rethinking business norms to move towards net-zero

Deloitte is accelerating its commitment to net-zero, bringing it forward to 2040. This ambition extends beyond our own operations to include how we engage with our clients and support their sustainability journeys.

Our work with Haleon, a global leader in consumer healthcare, demonstrates this commitment in action.

Haleon is on an ambitious quest to reach an additional one billion people by 2030. This mission, focused on delivering essential healthcare products to diverse markets, is underpinned by a deep commitment to sustainability.

“Sustainability was always on Haleon’s radar,” says a director at Deloitte. “With important targets to meet, like achieving net-zero by 2040, it’s a huge priority for Deloitte too, so we’re working together to embed sustainable principles into project delivery.”

Haleon has deeply embedded its sustainability commitment, integrating it into its corporate charter and mandating CO2 emissions reporting in new supplier contracts.

Deloitte supports this shared ambition and has signed up to the Haleon Sustainability Pledge, committing to carbon emission reduction across our shared projects. This collaboration demonstrates what can be achieved when sustainability is prioritised.

“As we work towards our global commitment to reach net-zero by 2040, our work alongside clients who share this ambition is more important than ever. We all have a role to play in embedding sustainability into everything we do, including how we deliver for our clients.”

Global reach, local impact: smart travel solutions

Business travel is a key area where we are actively applying sustainable principles across our shared projects.

While in-person collaboration remains vital for critical moments, we recognise there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Adjustments to our working model include leveraging Deloitte’s global network and deploying local teams to support projects in their local time zones, reducing long-haul travel.

One example involved rethinking a short workshop, which traditionally would’ve meant teams from across the globe flying to connect in person. Instead, we opted for a highly effective virtual collaboration, radically reducing carbon emissions and proving that impactful work doesn’t always require physical presence.

As a director at Deloitte explains, “We have a real opportunity to rethink the traditional dynamic in business, especially when it comes to flying long distances.”

Making every mile matter

Deloitte’s Sustainable Delivery Framework (SDF) and Travel Emissions dashboard are powerful tools guiding us to minimise environmental impact during client delivery. The SDF, now integral to our proposals and deliverables, guides us to make smarter, sustainable choices for clients, our firm and the planet. The dashboard pinpoints high-travel engagements, allowing us to focus reduction efforts systematically.

This integrated approach forms our sustainable compass, moving beyond mere contractual obligations to demonstrate leadership and alignment with our clients’ deepest values.

Haleon’s engagement exemplifies this: sustainability is no longer a niche concern but a fundamental aspect of managing business relationships, with clients actively embedding it into their operations.

By applying the SDF and championing sustainable practices, we deliver value while reinforcing Deloitte’s commitment to a healthier planet and a resilient future. This is the new standard we embrace to meet our net-zero commitment.

"We know that the health of people, nature and the shared resources we depend on is increasingly under pressure from climate change. As these impacts intensify, so does the urgency to act. Working with teams like those from Deloitte, we are targeting net-zero carbon emissions from source to sale by 2040.”
