AI for good

Shaping an inclusive AI future with responsible innovation

As artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes industries and societies, a critical question emerges: how do we ensure the digital revolution and AI serve humanity, foster inclusion and leave no one behind?

At Deloitte, we believe the answer lies in collaboration, responsible innovation and a commitment to ethics: AI for good.

The path ahead remains uncharted, so we are bringing together diverse organisations – educators and charities, community leaders and government bodies – to collectively address the ethical, practical, societal and environmental implications of advancing technology.

It’s all part of our forward-looking approach to social impact: using the skills and passions of our people to help shape a future in which technological innovation, in this case AI, empowers everyone.

Empowering educators to lead AI in the classroom

Education is fundamental to an inclusive digital future. As generative AI accelerates change, empowering teachers by building their skills and confidence to engage with it responsibly has never been more important.

Deloitte’s work with Teach First and sector partners focuses on shaping how schools adopt AI to serve disadvantaged communities.

Early cross-sector engagement – through a roundtable and national AI summit – brought together educators, technology experts and policymakers to shape Teach First’s approach and align stakeholders around a shared ambition, enabling schools to adopt AI safely, effectively and inclusively.

These insights informed the Trustworthy AI in Education (TAIE) pilot programme, delivered in collaboration with Teach First and Connectr Early Engagement.

With workshops and mentoring, the programme has supported 22 teachers across 20 schools in five UK regions, building their confidence to use AI responsibly and embed it into classroom practice and school strategy.

“The usefulness of hands-on activities helped with embedding knowledge and applying AI concepts directly to teaching practice.” – Programme participant.

The programme brought together expertise from Deloitte, Connectr Early Engagement, Amazon, Raspberry Pi Foundation, Teachmate AI and the education sector, combining technical insight with practical classroom application.

Deloitte and Teach First are committed to continuing their collaboration to harness AI in education to support student outcomes and help to close the digital divide. In this next phase, we look forward to using what we’ve learned from our pilot programmes to shape the future of AI in education more broadly.

The real opportunity isn’t just what AI can do;
it’s who it can work for.

Unlocking AI for charities

For many charities, the potential of AI is significant, but so too are the challenges. Concerns around data security, ethical use and a lack of tailored guidance mean many organisations remain at an early stage of adoption, with only 18% reporting they have the support they need.

To help address this gap, Deloitte is working with CAST (Centre for Acceleration of Social Technology) on the Worthwhile AI initiative, building on previous collaboration to support charity staff in adopting AI responsibly.

Together, Deloitte and CAST are supporting charities as they adopt AI and learn to use it across the sector. This includes developing a connected learning ecosystem with structured pathways, practical guidance and opportunities for peer collaboration and co-design.

As part of this work, Deloitte has supported the rollout of Worthwhile Chat, a generative AI tool designed specifically by and for the charity sector. Operating as a safe learning environment, it enables organisations to experiment with AI in a controlled way, removing the barriers to responsible AI adoption. With pre-programmed use cases and built-in privacy safeguards, charities can prioritise the responsible use of AI, maintaining data security while exploring where AI can make a real difference.

Setting the standard for responsible AI

As AI adoption accelerates, organisations across all sectors are grappling with its ethical, societal and environmental implications.

To address this, Deloitte worked with Business in the Community (BITC) and partners, including Verizon, Pinsent Masons and Grant Thornton, to create the UK’s first Responsible AI Framework.

Developed in BITC’s Responsible AI Labs, the initiative brought together leaders from business, government, academia and civil society. Deloitte played a central role during the structured lab sessions, bringing the breadth and depth of the firm’s expertise in trustworthy AI to shape discussions. Participants explored critical themes such as governance and transparency, cybersecurity and data protection, workplace impact, environmental sustainability and wider societal implications.

This collaborative, insight-led approach helped organisations proactively address risks, share emerging best practice and shape how they deploy AI, ensuring it delivers business value and positive societal outcomes.

The framework provides clear, practical actions and guidance to help organisations of all sizes adopt AI in ways that build trust, protect people and support inclusive, sustainable growth.

Working alongside BITC, Deloitte played a central convening role, bringing organisations together, shaping discussions and translating insight into practical outputs, including blueprint reports, case studies and actionable recommendations.

"As AI continues to transform how we live and work, taking a responsible approach is crucial. Business has a critical role to play in getting this right. The Responsible AI Framework is a strong example of what can be achieved when businesses work together with a shared commitment to doing the right thing."
