Commenting on today’s ONS GDP figures, Debapratim De, chief economist at Deloitte UK, said:
“Far from losing steam after a bumper first half, July’s GDP data suggests the UK economy entered the third quarter on a strong footing. However, the outlook for household consumption remains subdued.
“We now expect elevated energy price volatility to persist well into spring. This is likely to keep inflation higher for longer and monetary policy tighter, weighing on demand through the second half of 2026.”
