Increase in sales dynamics in January

The beginning of the year has brought positive news from the market. Despite ongoing uncertainty, there has been an improvement in both current and future consumer sentiment in Poland. Retail sales in January 2025 increased by 4.8% year-to-year, surpassing analysts' expectations and showing greater momentum than in January 2024. Particularly encouraging is the growing momentum in the furniture, RTV, and household appliances categories, which faced lower demand last year. Although it is still too early to talk about a breakthrough, the market data should be viewed with optimism. It is hoped that the easing of monetary policy in the second half of the year will have a lasting impact on individual consumption and sales levels.

Regulatory & Compliance

First settlement of fees for Single Use Plastic products

By March 15, 2025, entrepreneurs introducing SUP products to the market or offering food and beverages in packaging that are SUP products, or empty packaging that are SUP products, are required to submit a report in the BDO system for the year 2024. Importantly, this will be the first full report in which entrepreneurs will also have to account for new fees introduced as a consequence of the implementation of the SUP Directive. The regulations regarding the new fees related to SUP products still raise a number of doubts, as evidenced by individual interpretations issued by the Voivodeship Marshals. This is the last moment to verify the adopted methodology regarding the new obligations related to SUP products. It is important to remember that failure to meet these obligations may result in penalties for the entrepreneur and the need to pay overdue fees with interest.

Exemptions from Registration on Cash Registers in 2025-2027

As of January 1, 2025, a new regulation by the Minister of Finance regarding exemptions from the obligation to record sales on cash registers will come into effect. The regulation largely maintains the current provisions in this area, particularly the threshold for exemption at 20,000 PLN and the list of activities exempt from registration. However, it foresees an expansion of the range of goods and services that must be registered on a cash register—changes will include, among others, the vending and parking industries. The regulations include transitional periods to help entrepreneurs adapt to the new obligations. This may require updates to procedures and adjustments to taxpayers' sales systems, so it is crucial to start the adaptation process well in advance of the new requirements.

The Retail Industry focuses on energy transformation

A well-developed energy strategy is like a roadmap that helps a company move from point A to point B and supports growth in competitiveness in the market. The current general tools for managing the energy sector within companies are now insufficient or inflexible. Many companies, regardless of energy consumption, are implementing their own energy strategies, which include new purchasing models, investments in their own renewable energy sources, and long-term agreements like CPPA (Corporate Power Purchase Agreements). The growing energy awareness, driven by concerns about price volatility and supply security, is prompting companies to take actions that ensure greater stability and energy efficiency.

We invite you to read articles in "Energy Transformation” section, where we discuss various elements of energy strategy for businesses: Energy Transformation.
