2021 Future of cyber survey

Complexity is the new normal. How companies are achieving visibility

Hybrid work environments have become a fixture, the cloud is growing in importance to almost every type of enterprise and as devices and applications evolve, they are evermore connected.

This year’s future of cyber survey highlighted that amid this digital transformation, global leaders have noted a significant increase in cyberattacks at their companies in the past year. However, plans remain for continued investment in the digital space.

It's important for organisations to gain greater visibility across ecosystems lacking clearly defined perimeters. The stakes—be they operational disruption, reputational loss or deflated equity valuations—are too high. Just as complexity is the problem, the solutions are also far from simple.

This year, the survey went to leaders with a direct oversight for cyber - CEOs, CFOs, CMOs, CIOs and CISOs. Their sentiments are similar to one another although there are some variations seen across geographies and industries.

“As we continue to accelerate our adoption of cloud as the way we compute and embrace digital and data as the way we serve our communities here in New Zealand and compete globally, we facing increased volatility, unpredictability and disruption from cyber-attacks.“Our customers and society expect ethical use of their date, resilient and safe services, and sound stewardship. Our success today and into the future depend on us grappling with and solving our cyber challenges at the executive and board tables and not just leaving it to the technologists to resolve.”

“With digital transformation impacting every aspect of business, it is becoming apparent that the journey can either enhance business performance or amplify and spread risk. Cyber security is a crucial enabler and integrating a clear and robust cyber strategy into the core of any business will not only help achieve business outcomes, but will also reduce vulnerability from cyberattacks. It is critical to break down institutional silos and get lines of business to collaborate on cybersecurity.”
