Artificial intelligence and innovation

Deloitte aspires to being the most innovative global professional services firm.

At Deloitte, we believe that innovation is more than just a department or a “nice to have” – in this era of rapid change it is a strategic imperative. At Deloitte we innovate continuously in the way that we operate internally, as well as in our work with our clients, as they transform their organizations, industries, and society at large. We empower our practitioners to explore and adopt new technologies, methodologies, and strategies—fostering a culture of innovation. Innovation is at the forefront of addressing our clients’ most complex problems, to help futureproof their organizations.

Creating enduring value with AI

The disruptive potential of Generative AI (GenAI) has captured the attention and imagination of the world over the past 18 months, driving the transformation of industries. The surge in the development and adoption of GenAI tools and applications through powerful use cases has been seen across business, government, and society. Deloitte is committed to helping clients harness the potential of GenAI as a growth and innovation catalyst to create enduring enterprise value, while at the same time managing risk through Deloitte’s Trustworthy AI™ framework. We are evolving our own workforce by equipping our people with the necessary AI tools, resources, and mindsets to prepare for future challenges.

We help clients incorporate AI readiness into their strategy and operations, to scale their GenAI solutions, and enhance workforce-wide GenAI capabilities to create competitive advantage and broader AI acceleration in the market. In 2024, Deloitte expanded its global GenAI incubator network to include eight regional hubs, enabling clients to innovate with GenAI proofs of concept, to ultimately develop, deploy, and scale solutions.

At Deloitte we aim to revolutionize our profession by transforming our business with GenAI. We are harnessing the power of GenAI by integrating leading third-party GenAI platforms into our work, and through the development of proprietary GenAI tools and features integrated into our already AI-enabled global business delivery platforms.

For example, Deloitte Omnia, our end-to-end global audit platform, enables A&A practitioners to deliver a digital audit by unlocking new insights while continuing to provide a high quality audit experience. Deloitte won the inaugural AI Innovation Initiative of the Year award at the International Accounting Forum and Awards in 2024 in recognition of our enhanced GenAI capabilities in Deloitte Omnia. For our tax practitioners, Intela, Deloitte’s global tax platform, brings together tax information, processes, and teams, and automates workflows using GenAI. Equally, Deloitte Ascend supports our consultants to deliver digital transformation for clients with industry-leading practices and solutions with GenAI embedded throughout the delivery lifecycle.

For our people, we are prioritizing upskilling on GenAI topics through dedicated AI and GenAI fluency programs within our Deloitte AI Academy™ learning ecosystem. We recognize that some of the most productive uses of GenAI will involve augmenting people’s skills to enhance their productivity, knowledge, and creativity. To succeed, organizations will likely need to move beyond simple GenAI fluency and create new roles, new work processes, and evolve their organizational cultures. This includes evolving the firm’s strategy to account for the human impacts of GenAI and building trust in leadership. At Deloitte, we are doing this as part of our global GenAI program.

To navigate the ever-changing technological and business landscape, our clients require new outcomes built on industry- and domain-specific solutions. The Deloitte AI Institute’s latest GenAI Dossier explores industry-specific GenAI use cases across six major industry verticals. Deloitte is forging a GenAI-empowered ecosystem through strategic alliances with third-party organizations such as NVIDIA, Google, and AWS—in an ongoing effort to build and deliver new, enhanced, and industry-specific GenAI solutions. In 2024, Deloitte was honored as the NVIDIA Partner Network (NPN) Global Consulting Partner of the Year. This recognition underscores our leadership in GenAI adoption and our ability to harness the full potential of NVIDIA DGX Cloud. We understand that successful implementation of GenAI goes beyond the technology. Our multidisciplinary model helps us address the wide range of potential challenges that GenAI poses, while providing end-to-end capabilities to help enterprises generate advantage with GenAI—from managing risk through Deloitte’s Trustworthy AI framework to delivering complex AI solutions at scale using our deep engineering skills.

We invest heavily in the development of pioneering thought leadership, showcasing the latest GenAI trends and insights to help global business leaders make informed decisions about AI policy, strategy, investment, and deployment. To stay abreast of GenAI perspectives, we conduct regular surveys of global business leaders, such as our State of Generative AI in the Enterprise survey and the CEO’s guide to envisioning the GenAI enterprise. These offer a clear view of the current landscape, track evolving attitudes and activities, and deliver practical, actionable solutions to help organizations understand that GenAI is about not just technology but a fundamental shift in business strategy—which, when implemented, should yield significant benefits for the future.

GenAI has great potential for positive social impact by enabling equitable access to technology, enhancing educational opportunities, and fostering inclusive growth. To that end, Deloitte is proud to have sponsored the inaugural United Nations AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva in May 2024, where we shared our insights and solutions to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals and transform AI governance dialogue into impactful action.

In addition, Deloitte has made new AI platforms and capabilities available through our work to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion, for example with disability equality charity Scope to improve the organization’s digital capabilities and safe use of AI.

Society is just beginning to uncover the immense potential of AI and GenAI in helping to significantly enhance sustainability and emissions reduction efforts in both the public and private sectors. Meanwhile, Deloitte is also working with clients to help effectively manage rising energy demand and potential emissions impacts resulting from the increased adoption of AI technologies, by developing deep energy system models, helping explore new business models, and providing actionable recommendations that reduce overall emissions impacts while empowering organizations to apply AI in a climate-conscious manner.

Innovating in space

Deloitte also invests in a range of next-generation technologies and domains that will have a significant and transformational impact on Deloitte clients, people, and society. One example is space – both the exploration of space, and the use of space-based data and technologies for on-Earth activities. Deloitte is a professional services leader in space, supporting our clients as they build their presence in space, a domain that is experiencing rapid innovation and evolution.

In 2019 Deloitte launched the GRAVITY Challenge, a collaborative innovation program connecting public and private sector challenges with space-enabled technology and capability. The GRAVITY Challenge conducted its 6th challenge in 2024, with solutions providing real-time insights for access to over thousands of kilometers of remote power lines, road and rail networks and for measuring carbon impact, boosting land productivity and grazing management for agriculture clients.

Since its launch, GRAVITY has:

  • Addressed 50+ social, environment and industry challenges from government and private organisations globally
  • Attracted 1,000+ innovators forming 400+ teams from 17 countries to work on solving these challenges
  • Delivered 170+ learning webinars educating on the value and capability of space, the detail of each challenge, space data and technology uses, and business skills including pitching and proposal writing.

GRAVITY Challenge provides a unique opportunity for participants and innovators to collaborate and engage with public and private sector businesses, customers and data sets while receiving mentorship from Deloitte leaders and global space community. GRAVITY’s global community 1,500+ GRAVITY challengers, sponsors, supporters, innovators, and stakeholders has facilitated the sharing and growth of space knowledge, and to promote space capability and use cases.

In collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF), Deloitte recently conducted a first-of-its-kind global analysis on the economic, climate, and nature value of Earth observation data, integrating perspectives from a group of 40 industry, technology, and climate leaders to define the economic and climate value proposition of Earth observation data. The analysis forecasts that the Earth observation market will grow to more than US$700 billion by 2030, involving various non-space sectors. Furthermore, the report highlights specific interventions that have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by over 2 gigatons annually, equivalent to the combined emissions of 476 million gasoline-powered cars and the novel adoption for AI use cases with space data.

We are working with clients in both the Space sector and other sectors to utilize the technology and data assets from space, for instance:

  • Deloitte launched the Geospatial and AI Platform for Scenario Planning and Monitoring powered by Google Cloud to help clients make more sustainable decisions and take action to mitigate the impacts of climate change, such as community readiness for rising sea levels. As part of its new platform, Deloitte will leverage Google Earth integrations, Google Earth Engine, and Vertex AI to improve operational resilience and help organizations proactively anticipate and plan for a myriad of challenges, such as urban planning, disaster response, and infrastructure development.
  • In collaboration with local coastal counties in the United States, Deloitte US has leveraged Earth observation and geospatial data combined with advanced analytical modelling to develop a digital twin to test and monitor the impacts of climate-related risks such as sea level rise, chronic flooding, and extreme heat on communities, the economy, and critical infrastructure.
  • Working with several US-based electric utilities, Deloitte has implemented advanced AI models across a diverse range of mission-critical operations. From leveraging LiDAR to detect and predict vegetation encroachment near power lines to maintain clearance and prevent ignition or storm outage, to combining Edge AI, computer vision, and GenAI to automate asset inspections, to utilizing satellite images to assess storm damage and inform resource deployment for faster restoration, Deloitte has enabled significant enterprise benefits resulting in higher safety, OpEx efficiency, deferred CapEx, and additional revenue.
