OpenGateway is an initiative led by the GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications Association) that aims to transform communications networks into platforms prepared for developers. This enables companies to create and drive new digital services based on network capabilities. The aim is to promote an API economy in the telecommunications industry, facilitating the development and roll-out of innovative services.

Telefónica is one of the companies participating in this initiative. Its aim is to provide advanced services to business clients (B2B) by leveraging data provided by mobile and fixed networks. This approach enables operators to offer customised, highly efficient solutions adapted to companies’ specific needs, opening a new horizon in connectivity and data management. The initiative arose as a result of the need to transform B2B business in the telecommunications sphere. In an increasingly interconnected and digital world, operators do not only seek to be communication services providers, but also to act as catalysers of the digital transformation. This change has led to an 'apification' of the network, i.e., the conversion of network functionalities into more accessible and usable applications. In addition, the focus is placed on generating value from data, harnessing the vast amount of information generated and managed by operators to create smarter and more customised services.
