Answering your top 5 recruitment questions from Instagram

Ask our recruiters

At the end of last year we asked our followers on Instagram; if you could ask anything from our recruiters, what would it be? We collected the responses and our recruiters Julia and Jennifer from the Zurich office have answered the top five most popular questions.

1. What is the hiring process like?

The best way to take the first step towards a career at Deloitte is to apply through our career page to any job postings that fit your interests, experience, and competencies best.

You should include the following along with your application:

  • A complete CV (Curriculum Vitae)
  • A personalised, informative cover letter (depending on the role)
  • All education certificates (secondary school certificate, diploma, Bachelor's, Master's or PhD)
  • References from internships and permanent positions
  • Language certificates

As soon as we have checked your documents we will be in touch about the next steps, which can include the following:

1. The first step will be the initial screening of your application. Your application documents will be forwarded to the responsible recruiter directly. They will then assess your experience to see how well it matches the job description featured on our website.

If your application is a match, we will then invite you for the first interview.

2. Depending on the specific role you’ve applied for, we may ask you to join a virtual or physical interview with one of our hiring managers. They will ask you questions about your motivation to become part of Deloitte and to learn more about you. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have about the job or Deloitte.

3. Depending on the role, we may also ask you to complete a case study on, for instance, how you would tackle a client’s business problem. If a case study is required, you will work on it online from home. After your first interview or completion of the case study, you will advance to the second round of talks. In either a face-to-face or virtual interview, you will learn more about our culture and your role. Followed by this, you may have the opportunity to get to know your future colleagues and ask any question during an informal team coffee chat.

4. After case studies and interviews, it’s time for one last meeting: There we talk about your competencies and motivation and assess whether you are the right fit for your team. Seize this moment to ask any questions that matter to you, for example how we can support you in your personal and professional development. If we all agree that it’s a great match, you will receive a phone call from the recruiter to congratulate you on your new job. Well done and welcome to Deloitte!

2. What are immediate red flags on a CV?

When creating your CV please avoid the following, most common red flags:

  • Spelling & grammar mistakes and poor formatting
This is a huge red flag for any recruiter because every job or task regardless of its importance or size will require a level of care and attention.
  • No summary of working tasks for each position held
A CV must be focused on the role that you are applying for and so it must show exactly what you offer and how it relates to the job.
  • CV is too long
A candidate who delivers a 7-page CV with unreadable paragraphs of text and huge quantities of superfluous information might not be able to deliver concise reports to stakeholders or send brief update emails to clients.
  • Unexplained gaps in employment
We know that not everyone’s career path is linear. If you have gaps in your CV that is okay! However, before we can consider you for the next step, we need to understand what you have been doing during those gaps. So, whether you’ve been travelling, taking care of family or been busy doing yoga, let us know by including the respective information in your CV.

Remember to try to give us a quick summary of how you could be an asset to Deloitte and the respective position you are applying for.

4. Do you recruit from other countries?

Yes, we consider all applicants regardless of their country of origin. However, to be compliant with Swiss migration regulations we need to follow the guidance from the Swiss migration office in terms of the eligibility of a Swiss work permit.

5. What is your favourite thing about working at Deloitte?

Deloitte is special because of its people and culture. We look forward to coming into the office or returning to work after a vacation, to see not only colleagues but also friends. Furthermore, we work together with people who are among the best and brightest in the business and are all interacting with you on eye level, no matter what grade.

Moreover, flexibility is key at Deloitte. We work hybrid, which means working from the office, the client (if you are in a client facing role) or from home. When you work at Deloitte, you are encouraged to think creatively, be innovative with your ideas, push boundaries and challenge the status-quo. This is what makes Deloitte our employer of choice.
