Meet our Digital Customer Consultants - a force to be reckoned with

Careers in Technology

At Deloitte, our Digital Customer Consultants leverage Salesforce, a cloud-based software, to help our clients create meaningful experiences with their customers across various industries, including consumer, insurance, banking, non-profit, life sciences and many others. Find out how Ekyo and Federico developed their careers by combining their passion for business and technology.

Tell us a little about yourself

Ekyo: I am a Japanese-born Chinese who grew up in Japan. Before coming to Switzerland in 2021, I finished my Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies and worked at a consultancy firm in Tokyo. I moved to Switzerland to start my master’s degree as I wanted to learn more about international business in a diverse, structured, and hands-on environment. In my free time, I enjoy exploring delicious restaurants and nice cafes with friends, listening to K-POP, and watching Korean dramas.

Federico: I am from Italy and moved to Switzerland for my master's in finance, but after a summer internship at Credit Suisse, I decided to focus my attention on consulting and went to the University of St. Gallen for an exchange focused on obtaining the necessary skills to become a consultant. There I heard of the Salesforce Bootcamp, an event where I could learn about what being a Salesforce consultant means. I ended up loving the team and the job. At the beginning of September, I moved to Zurich (the best place to live in Switzerland) and joined the Digital Customer team as a business analyst. In my free time, I love to play padel, tennis and organize events for exchange students through my association, ESN (Erasmus Student Network) which I have been part of since my studies in Lugano.

Why did you choose a career in Salesforce?

Ekyo: I chose a career in Salesforce because I was interested in improving customer experiences by helping companies streamlining their business processes and functions. However, I was not clear on which job could realize this. That is when I had an opportunity to participate in the Salesforce Bootcamp organized by the Digital Customer team for graduate students. After completing the bootcamp, it became clear to me that becoming a Salesforce Consultant is a career that I want to pursue.

Federico: As a marketing student, I have always had an interest in how to understand customers better and how to provide market-oriented value. Since Salesforce has always been a company that has aimed to provide companies with the tools and knowledge to understand their customers, it has always gauged my interest to work in the Salesforce ecosystem. Naturally, when I heard about the Digital Customer team at Deloitte and the profession of Salesforce consulting, it was obvious to me that this was a career path I wanted to pursue.

What do you enjoy most about working with Salesforce/as a Salesforce Consultant?

Ekyo: I enjoy working with Salesforce because it offers an intuitive platform that's both enjoyable to learn and directly applicable to improving my clients' businesses. Unlike some consulting fields where improvement paths can be vague, mastering Salesforce is clear-cut. The clarity allows me to continuously enhance my skills, translating directly into better solutions for clients. I love how the platform's functionality is transparent, making the impact of my work tangible and rewarding. Also, collaborating closely with clients to tailor Salesforce solutions that address their needs adds to the satisfaction of seeing real, positive change in their daily operations.

Federico: Unlike many consulting roles, with Salesforce, you get to see the direct impact of your work. It's not just jumping from project to project – you build expertise that carries over.

What makes working in the Digital Customer team special?

Ekyo: I would say it’s the people. From day one, I was struck by the warmth, openness, and genuine welcome from everyone on the team. This impression has remained unchanged even after several months. Working here isn't just about tasks; it's about the sheer joy of collaborating with a group of individuals who not only excel professionally but also make the workplace enjoyable. I firmly believe that the people you work with shape your life and career, and here, it's evident that fostering a positive work culture is a priority.

Federico: The people you get to work with are what makes our group different from the rest, I am truly convinced that the DC team has the best work environment out of all the Deloitte teams, everyone is very welcoming and open to support you. It happened multiple times that I went to the office exclusively to have lunch and see my colleagues

What advice would you give someone who is considering a career as a Salesforce Consultant?

Ekyo: If you have an interest in becoming a Salesforce Consultant, I would advise you to understand the basics of Salesforce and IT consulting to see if you like it or not. You can study Salesforce by using Trailhead which is a free online learning platform created by Salesforce that offers a variety of interactive and guided learning modules. You can practice Salesforce on Trailhead to familiarise yourself with the platform in a hands-on way. Another thing which I highly recommend is to understand how an IT consulting delivery model and functions looks like. Your daily work will be deeply affected by it.

Federico: Be passionate about technology, at the end of the day Salesforce is an IT solution so you will spend a lot of time on your computer fixing features and testing new releases. You do not need to code, but having a good understanding of programming logic is recommended. That being said, the possibilities with Salesforce are vast, allowing you to shape your career where you want.
