We recently asked our followers on Instagram; if you could ask our recruiters anything, what would it be? We collected the responses and our recruiters Andre and Nadia have answered your most popular questions.

What are the benefits of attending a career day or recruitment event?

When you attend a career day or recruitment event, you get the opportunity to meet and greet both recruiters and business leads in a comfortable, face-to-face environment. These events allow you to network and to get to know more about our recruitment process, ways of working, firm-wide culture, as well as any open or future positions.

Do: Prepare some questions in advance and make sure you research the business lines you are interested in. And of course, be presentable whether it’s online or an in-person event.

Don’t: If you want to make a good impression don’t come unprepared! 😊

How much importance do you place on the cover letter, or do you mainly evaluate the CV?

The cover letter is either a requirement or optional depending on the team you are applying to, but our recommendation is to always provide one and make it as personalized and straight forward as possible.

A cover letter can give us a better idea about your motivations and why you would be interested in applying for the role. Of course, the CV and its content take priority, but the cover letter can allow you to stand out from the crowd and be a beneficial tool for expressing yourself, especially when you are a graduate and don’t have any work experience yet.

Remember to tailor your cover letter to the role and business line you are targeting. We all know AI can help but personalisation and attention to detail really are key!

How much experience do you need for an internship versus a career start position? What’s the difference?

This decision really depends on each team’s hiring criteria, but usually an internship position doesn’t require any experience. Meanwhile, for a career start position it may be expected that you have already done an internship, or an extracurricular project related to your background and the role you are applying for. Don't forget to mention these when applying!

For non-EU applicants, do you provide work permit sponsorship?

Unfortunately, due to current Swiss immigration laws and restrictions we do not provide work permit sponsorships to non-EU candidates. We only make very selective exceptions for highly experienced roles that require a niche skill set, usually not found in the Swiss/EU market. These types of skill sets are required for the business and meet all the criteria to build a strong business case to the authorities.

What is your favourite thing about working at Deloitte?

Our favourite thing about working at Deloitte are the people! Deloitte is very international, and you get to experience different cultures in the workplace while working in a very dynamic and diverse environment.

We also appreciate that Deloitte offers training and self-development opportunities. For example, our firm organises many internal online trainings and can cover the costs of your personal development education if there is a business need. More specifically, we are taking advantage of Deloitte covering 50% of the cost for language courses relevant to the role. This has proven very helpful and motivating when learning a new language that will be useful in our professional life.
