Three outstanding Swiss businesses have won a Best Managed Companies Award for the first time. The Mantu Group, Killer Interior and Swixx Biopharma were recognised for their exemplary leadership. All three won over an independent panel with their high degree of agility, their resilience and their fierce innovative spirit. The Best Managed Companies Award is presented every year by Deloitte, with support from Switzerland’s principal stock exchange SIX Swiss Exchange, the private bank Julius Baer and the marketing agency WillisHenry.
The current business environment is proving extremely challenging, with geopolitical instability, looming restrictions on international trade and a shortage of skilled workers just a few of the risks that companies are having to respond to more or less simultaneously.
Some of the firms that have dealt with this challenge while continuing to grow have now been recognised by Deloitte with the Best Managed Companies Award following a strict selection process. Andreas Bodenmann, Programme Manager and Head of Deloitte Private, said: “The winning companies have put in an outstanding performance. Their management teams have demonstrated exemplary leadership in what has been a highly volatile and taxing environment.”
Four main pillars in the evaluation process
The award is preceded by an intensive, multi-stage coaching and assessment process that all participating companies have to go through. The focus is on evaluating performance in four core areas: strategy, productivity and innovation, culture and commitment, and governance and finances. Firms that are a cut above the rest in all four categories have a chance of winning the award.
Exemplary company management: the winners in 2025
Three unlisted firms were named Best Managed Companies:
Thirteen repeat qualifiers, with three awarded the Gold Standard
The Best Managed Companies competition does not end after one year – all of the participating businesses can undergo the same assessment regularly, attend workshops and retain their qualification. Thirteen companies that had previously received the Best Managed Companies Award succeeded in doing just that this year.
Worthy of particular mention are three firms that have qualified for the Best Managed Companies Award for several years in a row now, thereby earning themselves the programme’s Gold Standard. This is only the second year in the history of the programme in Switzerland that companies have been given this honour.
The awards were presented at a major ceremonial gala held in THE HALL in Zurich, in the company of some 250 leading business figures.
Commitment to Switzerland as a place to do business
The firms that have won the Best Managed Companies Award are at the very pinnacle of their respective industry. They have demonstrated an impressive degree of creativity and innovation while managing to stay true to their fundamental values. Privately held companies are a driving force for innovation, making them crucial to the diversity and strength of Switzerland as a place to do business.
As an audit and consulting company, Deloitte supports them with the challenges they face in the areas of growth, compliance, reporting and audit, and tailors its wide range of services from the entire Deloitte universe precisely to the companies’ specific needs so that they are able to hold their own and carve out a successful position for themselves.
Judging panel made up of business leaders and academics
As in previous years, entrants were assessed by an independent panel made up of: Jens Breu, CEO of the SFS Group; Dr. Katharina Gasser, General Manager at Roche Pharma Switzerland; Thorsten Hartmann, Head of Branch at Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd in Basel; Dr. Thomas Straub, Professor for International Management at the University of Geneva; and Tanja Vainio, Country President at Schneider Electric Switzerland.
About Best Managed Companies
The Best Managed Companies Award is a programme that honours unlisted, privately owned firms for their organisational success and their achievements. Conducted in 48 countries, it compares businesses against the globally recognised Deloitte benchmark in a detailed assessment. The programme has been continuously enhanced over the course of its 30-year existence. Participating companies receive an independent, in-depth appraisal of their governance methods and overall performance. This shows them where they currently stand in four key areas of business management compared with a global community of over 1,400 of their peers with outstanding management practices. Since its launch in 1993, the programme has developed into the most important business award of its kind.
