The Deloitte network has set a worldwide target to reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040. In September 2024, the Deloitte network’s target received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The Deloitte network has committed to a 90% reduction in GHGs by 2040 from a 2019 base year across business operations and value chain and will remove the remaining 10% of emissions through the purchase of permanent carbon removals.

The Deloitte network’s long-term targets:
The Deloitte network has committed to long-term net-zero by 2040 and Deloitte Africa will contribute to achieving this. It is recognised that the long-term target is ambitious and will require systemic transformations and action by third parties outside of the Deloitte network’s control. Progress against this target is monitored annually at a Deloitte network level.
With thousands of people across Deloitte Africa’s offices and project locations, we are implementing practical sustainability actions designed to be adapted and scaled across diverse operating environments. Our focus is on solutions that are relevant to local contexts, deliver measurable impact, and can be expanded over time as capabilities and infrastructure allow.
