It is becoming increasingly common for individuals to be living in a different country to the employer they work for either on a short or long term basis.

This session will explore the payroll implications of such arrangements highlighting the differences between income tax and social security withholding requirements.

This session will explore the employment law and immigration issues which can arise as a result of remote working.

For example, considerations around whether an employee acquires employment law rights in the country of remote work, how their existing employee benefits might be impacted, and the types of employer obligations that might be triggered as a result of remote work arrangements.

In the past, HMRC could be expected to conduct audits into employers’ compliance regularly.

Our more recent experience has been of far fewer cyclical reviews, with compliance activity instead focusing on key areas such as:

• IR35
• Termination payments
• Directors
• PAYE Settlement Agreement review and
• Qualifying travel and subsistence claims

This session will consider recent ‘hot topics’ and how we have seen HMRC approach their review. We will also cover managing negotiations with HMRC proactively, including voluntary disclosures, to help resolve any issues identified as smoothly and effectively as possible.

With increasing focus from organisations on skills of the future, the global war on talent and the continued rise of remote working, many employers are relying on their Global Mobility teams to create new cross-border talent sourcing models and structures to meet their business needs.

This session will highlight key considerations for Global Mobility teams as they look towards the future, with a particular focus on the use of employment structures like global employment companies in enabling cross-border talent sourcing.

Business travellers and remote workers are now a significant part of most mobility programmes. We will explore how businesses are managing these populations from a policy governance and tech enabled delivery perspective.

As a result of restructuring or technological developments, many businesses may choose to reduce their workforce and provide termination packages to individuals impacted.

This session will focus on the complications which arise when termination packages are provided to mobile employees, covering the UK income tax, PAYE and National Insurance considerations.

Our closing plenary will provide the key takeaways from the conference as well as raising possible disruptions to global mobility in the future.
