Jamie Hamilton, automotive partner and head of electric vehicles at Deloitte, said:
“A tenth consecutive month of growth in new car registrations is a testament to the resilience of the market, despite the obvious headwinds facing the industry. September’s plate change no doubt helped to uplift sales, with an increase registered across all sales types.
“The high cost of fuel will likely be incentivising some drivers to switch to electric, as seen in the supercharged growth in the electric market last month. At the same time, competition and variety of deals are also positioning EVs as an attractive option for more consumers than ever. As the industry continues to invest heavily on developing exciting and accessible new models to bring to the market, future momentum will also rely on clearer guidance for both consumers and manufacturers on long term policies. This clarity, paired with ongoing investment in charging infrastructure, could pave a road towards even stronger growth.”
