Emma is an ACAMS Certified Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS), and an export control professional. She joined Deloitte in January 2022 and has since provided export control advisory services and training and conducted risk assessments for aerospace and defence clients. Prior to joining Deloitte, she spent 4 years in the Proliferation Finance and Strategic Trade Controls team in King’s College London. Here, she provided sanctions and export controls training for the higher education, financial and maritime sectors. She collaborated regularly with U.S., U.K., E.U., and EU member state regulatory bodies as well as U.N. agencies and committees. Between 2014 to 2018, she conducted corruption risk assessments on national defence sectors for Transparency International UK. She has also interned at the European Union Institute for Security Studies in Paris (France) where she supported senior analysts working on EU sanctions policy, and worked at the Council of Europe earlier in her career.

Emma’s experience in identifying areas of risk and opportunity in relation to export controls and trade sanctions includes the following:

  • Conducting cross-border export control risk reviews in various countries and jurisdictions
  • Providing regulatory support on development of tools and processes to ensure export control compliance
  • Developing classification training materials on ITAR, the EAR and national jurisdictions
  • Overseeing an outreach project on export controls and sanctions implementation in the higher education sector
  • Shaping and coordinating a investigative project on sanctions evasion mechanisms
  • Contributing to proliferation finance training materials, producing training videos on sanctions, and devising a sanctions 101 training
  • Overseeing the preparation of an online training course on sanctions and export controls.
