How do we fuel our future?

How do we fuel our future? Is it solar, wind or hydrogen? And who is responsible for making it happen?

It was a pleasure to explore this topic at our alumni networking evening on 10th May. Thank you to our host Merlyn Gregory, sustainability and climate change strategy lead Partner at Deloitte, who chaired a lively discussion with alumni Neil Lawrence, Director at Ofgem; Shivangi Kumra, Deal Lead at First Impact Partners; Kim van Lieshout, Sustainability Lead at OVO; Charlie Parry, Chief Development Officer at UrbanChain; and Minesh Shah, Managing Director at InfaRed.

Key takeaways from the discussion included:

  • Enabling consumers to make sustainable choices will be key accelerating energy transition in the UK
  • The private sector needs a stable, long-term energy policy environment to continue to build and invest in UK energy infrastructure
  • Investors need more confidence in UK policy frameworks and project delivery
  • The UK will need both a national grid and distributed energy systems to continue to decarbonise the economy
  • Strong collaboration between the private and public sectors is needed to deliver energy transition milestones.
