People Series – Jordan Belgrave speaks to us about his experiences in the RAA Team

Hi Jordan, please tell us a bit about yourself and your role within Real Asset Advisory.

I’m an Assistant Director within Construction Advisory and operate in Deloitte’s Capital Projects Cost Consultancy Group. I have 10+ years’ experience in cost management and consulting of real estate construction & Infrastructure assets. Presently my focus is on major infrastructure capital project assurance & transformation with regards to programme controls for clients both abroad and in the UK. I also lead our internal finance operational workstream which includes the management, oversight, planning & reporting of the business’s financial performance. Before joining Deloitte, I worked client side where I delivered several high-profile conservation and heritage projects in London.

How have you been able to utilise your early experience in the heritage sector, in your current role?

My career as a quantity surveyor in the conservation and heritage sector has been invaluable to my current role at Deloitte. It allowed me to bring a unique perspective and provided me with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and complexities that can surround various types of projects. As such, I developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills which are essential in my current role in providing effective and strategic solutions to meet the needs of our clients.

More broadly, at the core of a quantity surveyors service is to support clients plan, manage, report, and identify efficiencies in their construction related spend which are all transferable skills. Delivering these services to numerous clients first-hand across several sectors means I’m better equipped than your average consultant to provide strategic advice and subject matter expertise.

What do you enjoy most about working at Deloitte and what has been your most enjoyable experience so far?

It’s no secret that Deloitte is a high performing environment which attracts some of the industries brightest and highly motivated minds. Our people often find themselves seeking to solve some of our clients most challenging and complex issues. This brings with it an energised and highly motivated work environment, which I enjoy.

Equally, I enjoy the diverse range of projects and clients that I have been exposed too since joining the firm. I personally have worked on some unique, once in a lifetime project across both the private and public sectors.

What can you tell us about your recent volunteering role and how has Deloitte supported you?

I’ve recently been appointed as a governor to a secondary school in South London. Specifically, I will sit on their finance and resourcing committee, playing a strategic role in the oversight of the school’s financial management. It’s my hope that through this appointment, I can make a positive impact on the education system and to broader society. I applied for the role via Deloitte’s 5 million Futures Programme. The process was straightforward, and I was soon aligned with a school. In support, Deloitte allow me to use up to 3.5 hours per month to volunteer during standard working hours.
