People Series – Maggie Mu Zhen Xue

Hey Maggie, please tell us about your career journey to date.

My journey to this point has been marked by a fascination with new knowledge and a desire to make a tangible impact. After a few years working in Deloitte Shanghai helping Chinese companies investing in the UK, I embarked on my career in the energy M&A team in London, gaining valuable experience in deal structuring, financial analysis and more importantly building connections and relationships with colleagues and clients.

What are your thoughts on the latest trends shaping the Energy M&A landscape, and can you share any insights or projects you're currently involved in?

The energy landscape is undergoing a seismic shift, driven by decarbonisation goals, technological advancements, and evolving geopolitical dynamics. As someone deeply passionate about this sector's evolution, I'm incredibly excited to be at the forefront of these changes, playing a part in shaping the future of energy through my work in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) at Deloitte.

Today, I thrive in the dynamic environment of Deloitte's Energy M&A team. We are at the heart of the action, advising clients on complex transactions involving renewable energy assets, power generation, and emerging technologies like energy storage and floating offshore wind. The projects are incredibly diverse, ranging from advising a infrastructure fund investor on the acquisition of a wind farm portfolio to supporting a founder-owned business embarking on its next stage of growth by working with private equity firms.

What stands out for you about the culture within the Deloitte team?

What truly sets Deloitte apart is its collaborative culture. We have a team of incredibly talented individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise, all united by a shared commitment to delivering exceptional client service. This collaborative spirit fosters continuous learning and growth, providing unparalleled opportunities to develop both professionally and personally.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself as you embarked on your journey with Deloitte’s Energy M&A team?

One piece of advice that has resonated with me throughout my career is to "always be curious." In the ever-evolving world of energy, embracing a mindset of continuous learning and challenging the status quo is crucial. This principle is deeply ingrained in Deloitte's culture, making it an incredibly stimulating and rewarding environment to be a part of.

If you're passionate about energy and driven to make a difference, I encourage you to explore the exciting opportunities within Deloitte's Energy M&A team.
