Deloitte’s State of AI in the Enterprise report, published by the Deloitte Global AI Institute, outlines how organisations are adopting and scaling AI. This year’s report shows how AI is being embedded into operations, reshaping how work is delivered and highlighting where this technology’s value is accelerating or stalling. The insights show that many organisations are now shifting from pilots to wider adoption.
These findings come as New Zealand organisations equip teams with AI tools, strengthen their data capabilities and focus on adopting AI safely and productively. Many are doing so to lift productivity, respond to demographic pressures, and strengthen competitiveness.
Globally, workforce access to AI grew by 50% in one year; however, only 30% are redesigning key processes around AI, and 37% are using AI only at a surface level with little or no change to underlying processes. Only some are truly reimagining their business rather than optimising what already exists.
Globally, AI continues to deliver clear improvements in efficiency; however, the financial returns of this technology are being felt much more slowly. While 74% of organisations surveyed hope AI will grow revenue, only 20% can currently demonstrate measurable impact. This gap shows where many initiatives are stalling. Boards are asking what AI drives beyond just efficiency, and which new offerings and service models it can unlock.
Globally, 36% of organisations expect at least 10% of roles to be fully automated within a year. Early-career tasks in data entry and first-level customer support are common targets. Yet, 84% have not redesigned jobs around AI, and fewer than half of employers are adjusting their talent strategies.
For New Zealand, this creates the challenge of helping people build the skills they need early in their careers. One way to support this is by reshaping early-career roles so people learn by checking AI outputs, adding context, and making judgements when the system cannot. Shorter training cycles and regular mentoring can also help replace the hands-on learning that used to come from repetitive tasks.
About The State of AI in the Enterprise
The State of AI in the Enterprise annual report builds on Deloitte’s previous State of Generative AI in the Enterprise quarterly reports, intended to track the fast-moving adoption of GenAI. This new edition of the survey, conducted between August and September 2025, connected with 3,235 business and IT leaders across 24 countries and six industries: consumer; energy, resources and industrials; financial services; life sciences and health care; technology, media and telecom; and government and public services.
