Sam Fletcher

Director – Tax

I am a chartered accountant and a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, with over a decade of experience working in tax, both as a professional advisor and as an in-house tax specialist.

Having worked for several years in-house in New Zealand and the UK, I really enjoy being able to work with clients and come up with pragmatic solutions to their issues that not only address their needs but also work for them commercially. Clients really value the practical experience that I’m able to bring, having sat in the Tax Manager seat in industry for several years.

My clients operate in a broad range of industries, including manufacturing, agriculture, asset management, utilities and retail. I have a particular interest working with businesses in the Agri sector, having grown up rurally in Taranaki and having worked as a Group Tax Manager in the Agri sector in Christchurch after returning from the UK.

My primary focus areas are assisting corporate clients to manage their tax consulting and compliance needs, particularly utilising my in-house skill set to assist with internal tax reporting, maximising tax outcomes from transactions such as acquisitions and disposals, providing practical solutions to system issues and advising on GST issues. I also have real world experience managing tax risk internally in a large corporate environment, which I use to help my clients with tax governance and implementing best practice control processes.

Outside of work, I’m Dad to four young children which certainty keeps me (and my wife) busy. I work four-day weeks which allows me a day at home during the week with our kids, and I’m fortunate to have been able to take three periods of paternity leave too.
