The Future of Fashion

Behind the scenes of the Italian Fashion

Making IT

On 16 October 2019, the Deloitte Italy presented the first edition of the publication "Making IT - Fitting the future" in a conference at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event was promoted by the Deloitte Italy’s Public Policy program in collaboration with Confindustria and the Italian Initiative Group, and with the patronage of the Italian Embassy to the Kingdom of Belgium.

The publication, realized by Patrizia Arienti (Deloitte EMEA Fashion & Luxury Leader) and by Alessandro Fontana (Partner of Deloitte Italy), collects the portraits and stories of 25 Made in Italy entrepreneurs from the Fashion industry, highlighting their constant ability to innovate, combined with long-standing craftsmanship and artistic talent.

The publication provided the basis for a high-profile forum of discussion regarding the opportunities and challenges for the sector, with the participation of Fabio Pompei (CEO of Deloitte Central Mediterranean), Claudio Marenzi (President of Confindustria Moda) and Matteo Borsani (Director of the Delegation of Confindustria at the EU).

Furthermore, other prominent representatives of the European institutions and business community took the floor during the panel discussion, including:

  • Roberto Viola | Director-General of DG CONNECT
  • MEP Patrizia Toia | Vice-Chair, ITRE Committee
  • MEP Massimiliano Salini | INTA Committee
  • MEP Isabella Tovaglieri | ITRE Committee
  • Licia Mattioli | CEO of Mattioli Gioielli and Vice-President for Internationalization of Confindustria
  • Hercules Botto Poala | CEO of Successori Reda S.p.A.
  • Alessandro Mari | Head of Holden Studios, Scuola Holden

The closing remarks saw the intervention of the Ambassador of Italy to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Elena Basile, of MEP Fabio Massimo Castaldo (Vice-President of the European Parliament) and, for our Network, of Gianmario Crescentino (President of Deloitte Central Mediterranean).

Over 130 representatives of the institutional and public affairs community took part in the event, as well as representatives of the Italian and European media, such as the journalist Paolo Saraca Volpini (Press Office of the European Parliament), who moderated the debate.

The conference was preceded on Tuesday 15 October by a networking dinner at the residence of Ambassador Basile, in the presence of the life senator Mario Monti, as well as of other prestigious representatives from the Italian and European institutional community.
