The Audit Experience: A Summer of Professional Growth
Natalia Muraszko shares her candid experience as a Deloitte Summer Intern, from her first days in Audit to the skills and connections that shaped her summer.
My Journey to Deloitte
Deloitte has been a name I've heard since the start of my accounting degree at UCC. My first real experience with the firm came this April, when I was honoured to be selected as a finalist for the Female Leadership Undergraduate of the Year Award, presented by Grad Ireland and sponsored by Deloitte. The day gave me invaluable insight into the firm's core values through conversations with Deloitte representatives.
Stepping Into the Role
I began my internship in early June with a two-day induction at Deloitte's Dublin office. The programme struck an excellent balance between professional development and networking with interns from across Ireland. Following induction, I returned to the Cork office to begin my role in Audit and Assurance. What stands out most is how deeply teamwork is embedded in the role. My team has been consistently supportive, always willing to help and explain unfamiliar concepts. No two days are the same, which is precisely what makes the role so engaging.
Giving Back Through Volunteering
Deloitte's commitment to volunteering resonates deeply with me, as someone with many years of experience in volunteer work. Finding time to give back during university terms is challenging, which is why Deloitte's Impact Day initiative is so valuable. During my Intern Impact Day, I volunteered with Hometree, a nature restoration charity. Hearing the team speak about habitat restoration across Ireland was genuinely inspiring, and the experience reinforced why this work matters.
Learning and Development
Learning and Development are central to the Summer Internship Programme. The inductions and weekly Educate and Elevate training sessions are thoughtfully designed to build a broad range of skills over the ten weeks. The variety in training types and content kept sessions engaging, and there were always opportunities to connect with new people. Travelling to Dublin for some sessions was a highlight, we were genuinely excited to see what each day would bring. Since starting the internship, I've developed significantly both professionally, through hands-on Audit engagements, and personally, gaining a deeper appreciation for the value of connections and teamwork in a professional environment like Deloitte.
A Message to Next Years Applicants
My biggest piece of advice is simple: apply. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm grateful I submitted my application last year. Regardless of where your career takes you, this internship is something you won't regret. It provides not only valuable skills and experience, but also meaningful connections with people, and those connections are invaluable.
