Intern Insights 2026

Studying for exams and completing assignments can only teach you so much. During my internship, I finally got to see how Audit and Assurance works in practice. Every week brought new clients, different challenges, and opportunities to build skills that simply can't be learned in a lecture hall. 

At the beginning, everything was new, from understanding audit documentation to learning the different systems and processes. What made the experience so enjoyable was knowing that I was never expected to have all the answers. Everyone understood that interns were there to learn, and people were always willing to explain concepts, answer questions, or point me in the right direction. 

Without a doubt, the best part of my internship was the people. 

From my first day in the Limerick office, everyone made a genuine effort to introduce themselves and make me feel welcome. Whether it was partners, managers, associates, or fellow interns, every interaction reinforced Deloitte's collaborative culture. 

Having a buddy and coach meant there was always someone I could turn to for guidance, whether I had a technical question or simply wanted advice on navigating my first professional role. It created an environment where asking questions was encouraged, not feared. 

The friendships I made with the other interns were equally memorable. Coming from different universities and backgrounds, everyone brought something unique, and it was great getting to know people who were at the same stage of their careers. 

One of the highlights of my internship was traveling to Dublin every second week for our internship workshops. 

The early train departures weren't always easy, but they quickly became something I looked forward to. Those journeys gave us time to chat, catch up, and get to know one another outside of the office. By the end of the internship, those train rides had become just as memorable as the workshops themselves. 

The sessions covered everything from professional development and communication skills to building confidence and understanding Deloitte's wider business. They complemented the work we were doing in the office and helped us develop skills that will stay with us long after the internship. 

They also gave us the opportunity to meet over 130 interns from offices across the country. It was inspiring to hear about everyone's different experiences while realising we were all learning and growing together.
