Nutritics: An Irish food technology success story

"They’ve built something genuinely unique at a time when transparency, compliance and trusted food data are becoming business critical."

When you sit into a restaurant and open a menu today, you are no longer just choosing what you want to eat. You’re absorbing sophisticated information about calories, allergens, ingredients, dietary labels, sustainability claims. Behind those carefully written lines on ingredient's list, sits an increasingly complex ecosystem of data, regulation and consumer trust that has become the biggest operational challenge in the food industry.

Irish-founded food technology company Nutritics helps businesses manage that complexity. Its platform, used by organisations including Starbucks, PepsiCo and the UK’s National Health Service, supports everything from allergen compliance and nutrition analysis to recipe management, menu publishing and carb on tracking.

As Nutritics prepared for its next phase of international growth through a significant investment from Kester Capital, Deloitte Ireland advised the company on the transaction, supporting the business at a moment shaped by growing global demand for transparency across the food industry.

James Toomey, Partner in Deloitte Ireland’s Advisory business, said Nutritics was exceptionally well positioned as regulation and consumer expectations continue to evolve.

Nutritics has built something genuinely unique at a time when transparency, compliance and trusted food data are becoming business critical for organisations globally. It has been incredibly rewarding to support the team on this milestone transaction as they position the business for their next stage of international growth.

Founded by brothers Damian and Ciarán O’Kelly and now led by CEO Stephen Nolan, Nutritics has expanded rapidly as new food disclosure requirements emerge across international markets, including Natasha’s Law in the UK and allergen legislation across parts of the United States. Stephen Nolan said choosing the right investment partner was critical to the company’s future ambitions.

“All investors have money, but what we were looking for in a partner was all the other things they bring, including having a strong cultural alignment. Kester fully understands our business and the opportunities that are out there, and are ready to back us every step of the way.

“It’s the same reason we chose Deloitte when looking for an advisor to help us identify investment opportunities, they made the decision easy. While there was a clear depth of expertise and an excellent pitch, the differentiator was the strong culture alignment and seeing that the team in Deloitte matched our level of care.”

From a customer scanning a menu in a restaurant to multinational operators managing food information across thousands of locations, Nutritics is helping transform how the industry handles data at scale, while Deloitte continues to support ambitious Irish businesses as they grow into global leaders.
