How to prepare for our Graduate Assessment Day

Think you have what it takes to succeed at Deloitte? Discover how you can stand out from the crowd at our new Graduate Assessment Day.

What is the Assessment Day and who is it for?

Launched in the fall of 2025, the Assessment Day is a key initiative within our Junior Hiring Program. As the name suggests, the program is designed specifically for junior candidates (Trainees, Business Analysts and Consultants) i.e. recent graduates or candidates with initial experience in a relevant field who are looking to kick off or accelerate their career growth at Deloitte.

The Assessment Days are held twice a month in our Zurich office and they cover two service lines: Technology & Transformation and Strategy, Risk & Transactions Advisory.

These events are not just a recruitment tool. They are an opportunity for young professionals to showcase their abilities in a dynamic environment and to get a feel for what it would be like to work at Deloitte, while giving our teams a chance to get to know them beyond their CVs.

Since its launch, we have been proud to welcome approximately 25 candidates each month to put their skills to the test and explore how they might fit into their potential future teams.

How many people usually attend and what are the general criteria for being invited?

The journey to joining Deloitte begins with applying for an open role. Following an initial screening and online assessment, candidates are invited to engage in an interview with either a recruiter or a member of the team they aspire to join. Should the interview prove successful and mutual interest is established, candidates will be invited to participate in the Assessment Day.

Regardless of their background and the direction their career will take them, successful candidates share several characteristics: they are either in the process of completing or have recently completed a university degree, demonstrate adaptability, possess a strong work ethic, exhibit curiosity, and show commitment.

What can candidates expect from the day?

The Assessment Day kicks off bright and early in the morning as candidates are welcomed with a brief introduction outlining the schedule and what to expect.

The day officially begins with a welcome speech from our Sponsoring Partner, who provides an inspiring glimpse into what working at Deloitte is really like. The energy and enthusiasm from the kick-off speech helps to create an upbeat atmosphere that carries throughout the day.

Next comes the group exercise, which is a dynamic session designed to test candidates on teamwork, logical thinking, and presentation skills. It’s their first real opportunity to collaborate, problem-solve and interact with one another in a professional setting.

After a short breakfast, candidates are invited into a client room for team-specific interviews. Here they engage directly with members of the team they’re hoping to join. This discussion gives candidates a deeper understanding of the role, while allowing teams to assess how each candidate approaches real-world challenges related to the position.

Lunch is more than just a meal; it’s a relaxed moment for candidates to connect with peers from the business. In our experience, this is when conversations really take off. Candidates often feel most at ease during this time and freely ask questions about what life at Deloitte is truly like.

Finally, candidates receive feedback from the morning session. Those who are shortlisted will have the opportunity to engage in a conversation with a senior leader of the team. This is an open discussion rather than an interview, an opportunity for both sides to get to know each other and to explore the candidate’s ambitions and potential future at Deloitte.

How can someone prepare for the Graduate Assessment Day?

  1. Do your homework: Read about Deloitte's values, as well as the team and the role you’re applying for.
  2. Prepare for interviews and casual chats: You may face both formal interviews and informal conversations with potential colleagues. Reflect on your strengths, goals and why you want the job. Prepare some thoughtful questions to ask as they show curiosity and initiative.
  3. Be yourself: While it’s important to impress, it is just as important to be authentic. Let your personality shine, especially during informal moments like lunch or coffee breaks. Recruiters and assessors are not just evaluating skills, they are also assessing team fit.
  4. Be willing to speak up: Don’t be afraid to share your ideas or ask questions, whether during the group exercise, interviews, or informal moments. Speaking up shows confidence, engagement and a willingness to take initiative. Don't forget to give space to others too.

What will happen afterwards?

Candidates will receive a call from a member of the Talent Acquisition team informing them about the outcome of the Assessment Day.
