Deloitte Switzerland Impact Report 2024

Our world is grappling with major challenges such as climate change, geopolitical conflicts and political instability, economic inequality, resource scarcity and technological disruption. For us, making a real impact means contributing to lasting change both now and in the future. The Impact Report 2024 shines a light on what Deloitte Switzerland achieved in the past financial year.

Our services

We continued our growth trajectory in the 2023/2024 financial year (FY24), increasing revenue by 4.3 per cent to CHF 622.9 million thanks to innovative multidisciplinary services focused squarely on technology and sustainability. With the daily dedication and expertise of our employees, we were able to assist our clients with their business challenges in a volatile environment.

We also supported our clients on their journey towards greater sustainability and significantly expanded our range of services in this area.

Revenue

By service

Audit & Assurance and Tax & Legal both enjoyed strong growth year on year, while Advisory – our largest business division in revenue terms – saw a slight fall due to challenging economic conditions. Deloitte remains the largest consulting firm in Switzerland.

By sector

Financial services is our largest sector and achieved significant revenue growth in the past financial year. Life sciences and health care, our second-biggest sector, held more or less steady despite a far-reaching structural transformation in the industry. Deloitte continued to successfully support businesses in the energy, resources and industrial sectors as well as in the consumer goods and retail industries. Revenue from our services for governments and public-sector organisations fell, while that in the technology, media and telecommunications industries (TMT) remained unchanged.

Employees

As a leading employer in Switzerland, Deloitte is a place where employees can develop as individuals and make a real impact. Deloitte Switzerland embraces an open and inclusive corporate culture.

Continuing professional development

We develop our employees with an eye on the rapidly changing needs of our markets. To meet our clients’ growing demands, 19 new partners were promoted and appointed and 594 new employees were hired. We invested 70,750 hours in training and continuing professional development in the past financial year.

A corporate culture that champions diversity and inclusivity

Deloitte brings together diverse individuals of 70 different nationalities with different backgrounds and specialist skills. We are committed to achieving gender balance: women made up 45 per cent of our entire workforce in FY24, an increase of one percentage point year on year. Promotions were handed out to 25 per cent of female employees, compared to 23 per cent of their male counterparts. At 29 per cent, the percentage of women executives (partners, directors and senior managers) is unchanged year on year.

Employees by location

Although we are part of a global firm with member firms in more than 150 countries, we also have strong local roots in the Swiss economy and in the relevant associations in the country.

Environment

Deloitte is strongly committed to achieving the targets of the Paris Agreement. Environmental sustainability is therefore an integral part of our work as part of the global WorldClimate initiative. We pursue our own sustainability goals as part of the global WorldClimate initiative. We reduced our building emissions by 6 per cent compared to the previous year – and by 72 per cent compared to our 2019 benchmark. We have thus exceeded our 70 per cent reduction target in this area.

Business travel

Our emissions from business travel (flights, hotels, trains, rental cars, etc.) have increased by 14 per cent per full-time equivalent (FTE) compared to the previous year. However, these emission figures are still 68 per cent lower than pre-pandemic levels (2019), and our goal is to reduce them by 55 per cent (previously 50 per cent) FTE by 2030. Based on the Sustainable Service Delivery Framework, we carefully consider, on a case-by-case basis and in dialogue with our clients, whether a trip makes sense to effectively support the client. We continue to make consistent efforts to further shrink our environmental footprint.

Supply chain and procurement

Deloitte also pushes for continuous improvements in the procurement of goods and services. 30 per cent of our global suppliers have already set science-based targets for reducing their emissions – 10 per cent more than in the previous year. To this end, sustainability-related clauses are being integrated into all new and extended supplier contracts. We expect 67 per cent of our global suppliers (by emissions) to set science-based climate targets by 2025.

Society

We use our expertise and resources as an organisation to help overcome some of the societal challenges facing Switzerland and the world at large. The Deloitte WorldClass initiative is geared towards giving 75,000 people in Switzerland and a total of 100 million people worldwide better access to education, training and employment by 2030.

Voluntary and pro bono work

Over the past financial year, we supported around 22,000 people in Switzerland to access education, training and employment opportunities and build their professional skills. We have helped 45,000 people in all since the initiative was launched. More than 400 of our employees dedicated their time voluntarily to the cause, contributing roughly 9,000 hours in total.

Governance

Our business is built on our purpose, ‘making an impact that matters’, and our shared values. A sound governance structure lays the foundations for ensuring transparency, responsibility and effective decision-making.

Deloitte Switzerland is made up of two legal entities: Deloitte AG provides Audit & Assurance, Consulting, Financial Advisory, Risk Advisory and Tax & Legal services, while Deloitte Consulting AG offers a comprehensive range of advisory services.

Deloitte Switzerland’s Transparency Report contains information on the structure and governance of Deloitte AG. Deloitte’s Tax Transparency Report sets out our tax principles and details of what tax we pay.
