At Deloitte Canada, we are always on the lookout for top talent to join our firm.
While we consider candidates who apply directly, we also actively scout the market for the best and brightest professionals. For those open to being “discovered,” LinkedIn is an excellent platform to showcase your experience and expand your professional network. To help you create a profile that stands out, here are some tips to increase your chances of being noticed by our Talent Acquisition Team.
Languages
List the languages you are proficient in on LinkedIn, specifying your level of expertise for each. Proficiency in multiple languages, especially French and Spanish, is increasingly becoming a key criterion for many roles. You might be surprised at how often this can make a difference in the selection process.
Professional photo
You have heard this a thousand times, but it is worth repeating: take some time to choose a professional photo. Ask yourself if this is the picture you would attach to your resume. A professional photo helps create a positive first impression.
Education
For many of our roles, certain designations are mandatory (such as CPA, CA, or MBA). If you do not include your full education on your profile, we may assume you are missing a credential we are looking for and might pass you by. Ensure that all relevant educational qualifications and certifications, whether completed or in process (with the target completion date) are clearly listed.
Separate work and volunteer experience
List your board and volunteer experience under the "Volunteer" section. While volunteer experience is always nice to see, including it among your work experience can make your profile look confusing and disjointed. There is often an overlap in dates, which can lead your profile viewers to wonder if you had two jobs at once and how it all fits together.
Showcase your career progression
We want to see your career progress. If you have been at the same company for 10 years but only include your current title, we might assume that you have been in the same role for the entire duration. By including the dates of all your positions, we can see your progression and better understand your seniority and the scope of your experience when considering you for current openings.
Add a specific location
When you leave your location as "Canada" instead of specifying a city, you may get missed when we search by city to narrow the pool of candidates. If you are looking to move to a different city, list the destination city as your location and write a sentence at the top of your profile indicating that you are looking to move and are open to opportunities. If you are willing to relocate, either broadly or to specific locations, include this information in your profile introduction.
Implement these tips
By implementing these tips, you will increase your visibility in our searches for the ideal candidate. A well-crafted LinkedIn profile can significantly enhance your chances of being discovered by our talent acquisition team.
