Joel is a Partner in Consulting and a member of our Consulting (Technology & Transformation) Executive Team. He is currently the Portfolio Managing Partner for our Engineering, AI & Data (EAI&D) service line, leading a growing team and P&L of ~1300 FTE coast-to-coast. His portfolio of offerings includes Operations, Industry & Domain Solutions, Engineering, and AI & Data. Prior to this, Joel led our Consulting growth platforms and investments, innovation and ecosystem plays, tech assets / products, and alliance programs nationally. He is also part of our Payments practice leadership team.
Joel specializes in business-technology value creation and strategy formulation. He is a business and technology subject matter expert in all things “money movement”, including digital payments, cards, messaging (e.g., SWIFT, ISO20022), payments architecture, cash management, global transaction banking, as well as bank and portfolio integration. More recently, Joel has been advising clients on payments tech modernization, PayMod commercialization, immersive experiences (AR/VR/XR), cognitive automation (incl. generative AI), digital twins, and APIs + digital architecture.
While focused on Canadian banking, Joel has also served major financial institutions in US and Europe. Highlight engagements / programs that Joel has led (is leading) at banking clients include: Wires Platform Replacement, Payments Modernization Strategy & Execution, Payment Hub Strategy & Solutioning, GTB Product Strategy & Tech Roadmap, Cash Mgmt Platform Design, ISO20022 Adoption & Innovation Strategy, Card Portfolio Integration.
Prior to entering consulting in 2007, Joel led engineering and product management for two enterprise software offerings at Microsoft Corp. (including a SWIFT messaging integration platform), managing onshore and offshore development teams and holding accountabilities for product development, release management / DevOps, and product launch / commercialization – in addition, Joel co-founded a tech start-up building collaboration platforms.
